I'm in Marseilles, now, and I just had to vent quickly about the convoluted "distract the guard" puzzle. >

I had to look up a hint for this one, and never in a month of Sundays would I have thought out the answer to that one - the mechanics of it don't even make sense, Spoiler Alertas the forces theoretically (I think) wouldn't be strong enough to achieve that result, let alone the amazing accuracy!
This one was a bit like a certain cat puzzle in Secret Files Tunguska, only it required more items to execute the puzzle....

I agree Traveler. Perhaps the description 'more difficult' should have been 'extremely frustrating.'  Can't recall exactly how much time I struggled on this one, finally resorting to the lame "TEOE/TEWE" methodology.

Last night I finished Ghost in the Sheet. It kept me glued to the computer mostly happily solving puzzles and proceeding according to plan. But also frustrated to the point of ripping my hair when I couldn't figure out how to talk to a certain creature.

Right now I have Bad Mojo and So Blonde installed. I've played a little bit of both, but I'm not in the mood for any of them and I can't decide which game to buy. Possibly Overclocked, but I'm not sure...

No adventure games? Or no games in general? Because if it's the latter.. I DON'T BELIEVE YOU! :-o

I just finished Broken Sword 1 and I'm not playing anything else right now.

Deleted UserI meant at the moment. Well, not since I finished Hunt for the Puppeteer yesterday.  I suppose I should haul my lame behind over to Amazon and go add my little 2 cents to the bad press going for the game there, and try to portray the game a little more realistically than that first bad review.  Thing is, I'm still chewing over exactly how I feel about the game.  I did think it was better than AOM1, but it was not a perfect game. One or two of the puzzles I felt was  a bit too convoluted, one actually unfairly so.  I can't even see Mc Gyver do what Nicole did to distract the guard at Carnot's estate in Marseilles. Although I suppose I must recognize that we are talking about an AG puzzle here - not a real-life situation...

To me this story was better in a few respects, than the first one. It was a bit more tense, and it did have me guessing to the very end, which was not the case with the first one; - I had seen the first one's ending coming a good bit before the end of the game.  In general (besides the few duds) the puzzles were better and more of a challenge.

What had REALLY improved a lot to me, was Nicole's voice-acting.  Her monotonous sing-song tone had irritated me no end in the first game, but in the second game, her tone always seemed appropriate to the situation.

How true, though I've got to admit though that what Nicole did to disable the nosy guy in Havana using common household items probably did come directly from an episode of McGyver.

As for what I'm playing now? Nothing really at the moment.   Although soon (I hope), I expect to be re-living the first Darkfall installment and playing the second, thanks to JB's great offering.  I've got Sherlock Holmes vs Jack on pre-order along with Sinking Island for later in April so I should be good for awhile.

Wow, I haven't played adventures in a while. I ventured through the RPG genre for a while.

But currently, I'm playing Overclocked (it works on my new laptop!!!) and Art of Murder 2. I'll be starting The Lost Crown, too. I might try to finish Keepsake, too.

I am still waiting for Still Life 2. The videos are looking awesome! Vic's outfit needs a makeover, though [smiley=laughing.gif].

Edit - I forgot I'm also playing Broken Sword 1, but I'm not getting into it much. I want to get through it though, because the later titles look good. I'm close to the end though, I think.

Just finished up the first season of Strong Bad. I hadn't planned on playing it, not liking the source material all that much, but Telltale wooed me with a free episode, and then a nice discount. So, I gave in.

Well, it didn't connect with me in the same way Sam and Max or Wallace and Gromit did. (Which I never expected anyway.) But I was surprised to find  it more entertaining than I thought it was going to be. I particularly enjoyed the various pop culture sendups, console gaming, action movies, the music industry, etc.

Started playing Ceville. It's pretty nice. The puzzles so far are good and well clued, apart from the few dialogue puzzles which more or less consisted of clicking on the same option several times.

I think it's trying too hard to be funny, and alot of times it uses jokes that are pretty old, like saying 'My preciousss' etc.

I played a demo of Ceville and found it hard to keep going.

Personally, I was kind of annoyed by the guy. I mean, he was kind of full of himself and it just annoyed me. I'm thinking about borrowing a copy from a friend just to prove myself wrong.

I've got quite a few games on my plate, though, at the moment
.

I finally got A Vampyre Story, too. Mona's voice was a little irritating at first, just because she seemed.. uhh, I guess whiney? Plus, she seemed like she thought of herself very highly *cough* like above, but then I took a liking to her and her unknowing-ness of everything in the castle. I liked Froderick right away
.

In fact, I think I'll go jump back in with that cute little bat
.

(Oh and I love those rats. I absolutely love their accent haha)

Ceville never stops being full of himself, but he soon meets someone who tries to stop him from being cruel all the time. Not that that works.

I kind of like him being an evil tyrant and fully aware of it. It's a shame that the game doesn't put too much emphasis on what others think of him, though.

Deleted UserRe Ceville: The game is a comedy. You are not supposed to take the characters seriously. They are cariciatures.
The game parodies other aspects of our culture, such as fairytales, films, other games etc.

You need to play the game with this in mind, with your tongue firmly lodged in your cheek.  If you don't enjoy Monty Python or the Sam and Max games, you probably will not enjoy this game too much, either.

Started replaying Dark Fall, which will be followed by DF2. That Pins & Needles package is great warm-up for the upcoming DF3. Also started Obscure II, for my non-adventure needs.

I still got A Vampyre Story halfway thru, hoping that some day I may manage to break thru the incredible boredom this game inflicts on me and actually finish it (with heavy use of w/t btw, there's no way I'm playing this otherwise :
). At least I loved Mona's voice. Also Larry V is left halfway thru, but for different reasons. Started a Larry-thon a couple of months ago, which got interrupted in the middle of V by a challenge (to finish Arsene Lupin without w/t) and after that I got sidetracked!

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Deleted UserWell, I finally finished Gabe Knight 2...  *wipes sweat from brow* , which I never quite managed to finish before, because of it's dastardly puzzles,Spoiler Alert (got stuck with the cuckoo clock, the first time) and then I finally got stumped with trying to push you know who into you know what hot place.   I suddenly had the inspiration of realising that back in the 90's, they probably did not have their mice running at 3000dpi, and that maybe I would have better luck if I set my mouse speed down. Set it down to 800dpi - and voila! Success at the first shot!    [smiley=music.gif]     [smiley=happy.gif]

Anyway, still have to finish Ceville, (having great fun with it), and also just started Dark Fall 1.  I wonder if we shouldn't start a Dark Fall thread?

Finished Ghost in the Sheet a couple of days ago. I quite liked it, but I must admit, its attempts at dark comedy in the midst of quite tragic events often fail and come across as simply insensitive.

Just finished the Detective part of Law and Order 1: Dead on the Money. I will reserve full judgment until I finish the game, but I didn't have nearly as much fun as with the CSI games. As long as I'm talking about the game, those of you who have the 2 CDs version, do not install the "evidence" patch, just the "time limit" patch, or the game will ask for a nonexistent third CD when you start the trial.

Once that is done, Dark Fall is next in line... although I had the game, I never played it before, now I'm glad I waited and can play the Classic Edition.

Btw, Aya, how did you do with the Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin challenge? Some of its puzzles (the infamous coin one among them) had me stumped for days until I admitted defeat and peeked at a walkthrough. Still loved the game  :
.

It took me several tries, even on an old computer (333 MHz).
But then I'm a rotten shot.

I'm currently playing Darkness Within, and unfortunately not enjoying it very much.

EDIT ....
Finished Darkness Within, and remain unimpressed. It had decent graphics and atmosphere, but the story never went anywhere and there weren't any interesting characters.

Now playing Legacy of the Crystal Valley.

Oh Trav, you've reminded me precious moments with Kate! At the end of the game I burst into tears, what a fascinating game.

I play Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper. The game seems promising although I played only for 30 minutes.

My current game is Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo.  It's a little jerky under DosBox, but so far so good.  I really like it.

Good post Taurnil, so it appears that Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper has indeed been released. ??? I've gotten several notices from Amazon delaying the release date (currently being May 15) so hopefully my next notification will be that it has been shipped.

I just finished playing So Blonde and now I'm trying to force myself to get on with Sinking Island.  My lord, this is the worst case of a game that should have a dialogue skip button but doesn't.   >
Of course the fact that I keep drifting back to the Secret Files 2 demo isn't helping the cause.
