I thought Star Wars: KOTOR might be too simplistic and console-like when I first heard about it but the second the game began I was blown away. Definitely one of the very best 3D RPGs ever made. It's a great deal of fun to play and one of the smoothest, most seamless third-person 3D titles I've ever seen in any genre. Loved the story, characters, settings, missions / quests, level designs, art direction, animations, audio, interface, stat system, weapons, combat, force powers, pod races, and pretty much everything else about it. Better yet, it has some genuine replay value with the dark and light-side Jedi paths.
Cheers, Terry

(Too many unplayed RPG's for that, unfortunately). I played through it as a light side tank character with a dual lightsaber, I'm really interested to see how it would play next time as a dark side character concentrating on Force powers instead.

I am glad i did because it is like a Christmas present to be able to look forward to continuing through the game now, as noted in this thread, I agree the game plays seamlessly, and the story and the interfaces all combine to make this a really wonderful experience, an epitome of what gaming can be with the full range of interaction with the dynamics of the meidum.
I ordered KOTR II, and agree III would be a real treat.
LucasArts and Biowar really created a winner with KOTR I and it is a pleasure to share our thoughts with the community here. I am exploring Tatooine and the wonderfully rendered desert areas now, and enjoying the continued complexities of the plot and my main char's growth and learning of the Jedi ways.
In an interesting way I can see the realization of George Lucas' vision with the Star Wars "theosophy" in this game even more than in any of the other formats, film, book, etc. for we have all the different aspects of a superior game, visual, voice, music, action, to enjoy. The Force is definitely with KOTR and I am very glad others have enjoyed it too.

The ending was unfortunately rushed with some plots and gaming aspects abandoned of which the foundation had already been laid. To this end, I look forward to KotOR 2's restoration as pursued by some dedicated individuals: http://www.team-gizka.org/
Glad to hear that you're enjoying KotOR. I've played this game so many times but I must confess attempting the Dark Side route I found very difficult to do as it's just simply not in my nature .

That is interesting about an effort to complete the incomplete elements of II, I will read up on that, thanks for the linkey
EDIT: OK< i visited that effort to restore the lost portions of KOTR II, amazing effort and they seem to be making excellent progress, once again I am simply astounded by the energy and the dedication of the various game communities to the true vision of some of the most remarkable games, and this seems to be another example of this, thanks for all who make such labours of love and effort to give to us all.

That's something that struck me regarding KOTOR as well, how it gave a deeper look at the philosphies of Star Wars. And I also enjoyed getting to learn more about some of the places and races from the films. It was much more detail than I expected from it by far.

That's going to be a bit a problem for me as well. I take choices in games seriously (well, as seriously as one can for a game) and I usually can't bear being nasty. I may have to settle for what Mike Myers called "quasi-evil...the Diet Coke of evil, just one calorie, not evil enough." : And if it means getting to chuck Force lightning around at a reduced cost, I can manage it.

I agree re evil, i just cant do it, but it is intriguing to know of the possiblity.
I did kick a kid off my ship who tried to stow away, i was feeling quit nervous about all the responsiblity at running the ship and keeping such a strange group of followers at peace with each other, and so on, so i just did not want to deal with the kid.

To my pleasant surprise, I discovered that, if used properly, he was as effective as a tank character, if not more so sometimes. Using Insanity + Force Lightning and/or Kill from a distance while two other Jedi close in to mop up can clean out a room in no time. Very interesting, a nice change of pace from the tank characters I usually play, and a lot of fun.

I am just about done with my first play through of KOTR and have been following developments in the community that supports all the LucasArts SW games with great interest, espeically the restoration efforts for both KOTR II and I, for there was lost and unused content for both games. I am also playing Jedi Knight Outcast and Jedi Knight Academy and find both of them remarkable games as well, their game worlds and scenes are remarkable and at times spetacular, beautifully rendered by the Quake engine and there is much to recomend both of these titles too. I decided to fully appreciate the SW story based sereis, which includes:
Dark Forces Dark Forces II (Jedi Knight) Mysteries of the Sith (MOS - DF II JK expansion) Jedi Knight II Outcast Jedi Knight III Academy KOTR I KOTR II Battlefront I Battlefront II
I would need to play and study them all. There are a number of other games that are partly story based and more action focuses, X Wing, and Tie Fighter come to mind, but I will have to focus on the main story games for now. There are maps and player mods and levels for all of these, and much activity in support of many of these titles which is good to see.
Overall, what a remarkable series and universe to create, and in these games one can see the overall development of CGI game technology with great examples of each new stage of development.
There is news of a new joint project by LucasArts and Biowar but it is uncertain if this will be a Star Wars project, or something new. For now, it seems that there is no plan by anyone to make a KOTR III.
