I've not played that many adventure games this -- last -- year.

Still Life -- Loved it and continued to think about it long after the game was finished.
DiscWorld Noir --  Very funny and cool game.
Syberia -- Liked this one.
Agatha Christie - Murder on the Orient Express -- Didn't grab me.
Tex Murphy - Under a Killing Moon -- One of my all time favorite games.
Tex Murphy - Pandora's Directive -- Perhaps my all time favorite game.
Lands of Lore 3 -- RPG I know, but became very interestered in this genre.  In fact I played this game over several times.
Morrowind -- Another RPG.  Love this game.  Currently on my 2nd replay.

Plan to play --

Keepsake
Indigo Prophecy
Secret Files:  Tunguska
Dreamfall
Oblivion

Also, I have many games that were started and I need to go back and finish.  Not sure what order I'll do these in, except that I know I will finish this replaying of Morrowind and then go on to Oblivion.  After that it's a toss-up.

don't need any more comments here, do i? 8-)

I really don't think so.

2. Sam & Max Season 1
this was FANTASTIC! i was very worried after sam & max hit the road being one of my fav advs ever, but telltale delivered... ok, maybe it was waaaay too easy and short (about 1.5-2 episodes a day) but it was so much fun it blew me away... can't wait for season 2 to end and be released complete (NO, i am NOT playing in an episodic fashion)

It's waiting for me, teasing...

3. Runaway 2
ok, so it practically had no ending and featured a really bad puzzle... so? everything else about this game was great

Hell, yeah! I loved this game. You know that. Ditto on 1. Your comment, I mean. Runaway was very fun, but I don't remember being as entertained as with R2.

5. Broken Sword 4: Angel Of Death
nothing much

still unfinished  :-/

8. Space Quest 6
pretty good... surprisingly, too easy

I remember it was challenging for me back then. Only one I played from the series, by the way. I know, I miss out. Something to look forward to some other time, I guess.

12. Scratches: The Last Visit
as much as i liked scratches, i was pretty disappointed with this... i guess if i had played it back then, right after the main game as a bonus, i would have felt different

Uhm. Hmm. Oops.

25. Aura 2: The Sacred Rings
i liked aura 1 and i liked aura 2 even more

*laughs*
You know, I still don't get it. Despite the loneliness in Myst games, they feel more alive than Aura. Graphics aside, I don't get this game at all. And don't start me on replaying it.

I'm in full agreement with the Adventure Lantern review. Couldn't say it any better, everything that is wrong with this game.

26. Blade Runner
very good... great atmosphere... first adv game played fully on a 37'' tv!

A special game. First game I played with that many different paths. Probably still the only game when it comes to paths (Pandora Directive rocks the endings).

29. Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened
the best sherlock game, and runner up in the top games of the year... can't wait to start arsene lupin

I liked Silver Earring, regarding the casework. The action sequences...not so much. Dragged the game a good deal. I'm interested in this one, despite mixed feedback.

33. Tony Tough
started this a long time ago but just couldn't get into it... restarted again now and loved every minute of it!

I seem to remember you beating on the game. Not sure. I quite enjoyed this aside from some lower quality German synch in parts.

34. Grim Fandango (replay)
the reason i wanted to replay this was because i remember liking it but never as much as some ppl have been raving about... i thought maybe i didn't remember it good, but i did... a really good adventure game, but not the absolute #1 as presented by some

Yeah, same here. It is a very good game with a really well written plot, but some puzzles didn't appeal to me and it's not consistent enough for some reason. Didn't play the original version and I'm sure I miss out on a lot due to that, despite the fact that German synch for LucasArts games is the best you can get.

36. The Dark Eye can never seem to be able to get into this game

Another one of those forgotten games, yes.

I can tell you what - probably - will get played in 2008.

This:

Sam & Max Season 1 (finally!)
Atlantis...uh...3 and 4, maybe? I can't really say.
Egypt 2 and 3 (never got Egypt to work...)
Bad Mojo Redux (curious about this)
Largo Winch (cheapo and I think Andromus likes it?)
playing: Destination Treasure Island (done in two sittings, but it's nice), Syberia (ho-hum), Dracula: Last Sanctuary (on hold)&&reading: even more study papers&&listening to: this and that, plus Musicovery&&TV favorites: (currently) Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Journeyman (cancelled! grrr...), Heroes&&
all-time) 24, Stargate SG1, X-Files, Lost, House

Largo Winch? I've been curious about it, but I haven't bought it yet.

On the subject of what we want to play in 2008, here's my list of games I definitely want to play:

Myst 4 and 5 (Yeah, I know, I'm late, considering I'm a Myst fan. Better late than never.
)
Rhem 1
And Then There Were None
Under A Killing Moon
Discworld 2
Discworld Noir

I honestly didn't play too many adventure games this year. Last year was a big year for me (found a copy of Syberia), but this year not so much.
 • Penumbra Overture (couldn't sleep)
 • Myst Online (played periodically, good community)
 • Aura (eh, too confusing)
 • Sentinel (haven't gotten to far into it)
 • Return to Mysterious Island (loving the inventory puzzles. Sad that I can't make the monkey knifefight)
 • 5 Days a Stranger (never really liked third person adventure games, so it wasn't my cup of tea)
 • Condemned: Criminal Origins (does this count? Either way, it made me feel bad about existing)

As for non-adventure games I bought (not counting Gametap)...
 • Halo 3 (was almost too busy playing to type this list)
 • Mass Effect (wonderful story, great direction, worth a second playthrough)

well you certainly got to play 1-3... 4 wasn't that good (at least iirc), but going back in time and visiting sq2 was hilarious! i still got to play sq5, sq1vga (somehow i haven't played any of the vga sierra remakes yet, while i've played all the originals that have been remade) and probably the indie sq's

34. Grim Fandango (replay)

yes, not consistent is the best way to describe it

what are you waiting for???!

Atlantis...uh...3 and 4, maybe? I can't really say.

i take it you've played 1 and 2? 2 is the best in the series, so if you haven't then don't miss it... 3 was pretty descent but very short... 4 was ok

Bad Mojo Redux (curious about this)

just like with dark eye, this one is another unusual game i tried more than once and never managed to get into... maybe i'll try it again some day

@grayfuss: overdid it? no way! if your adventure gaming doesn't average to at least 2 a month, then you are slacking off!
i consider this year a pretty good year quantity-wise, although my ideal number would be about 50! that's practically impossible time-wise though (mind you all those games are played without rushing to walkthroughs in order to get it over with)... as for dark eye, i've read 2 out of the 3 stories (or is 3 out of 4?) and the game is interesting but it's smth about the gameplay that turns me off... that rub_the_hotspot thing and the go round and round in the same room to discover what's unlocked all the time kinda doesn't work for me

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

I save it. Started Bad Mojo first.

Atlantis...uh...3 and 4, maybe? I can't really say.

No, I never played any of the Atlantis games. 1 and 2 were not available on budget, that's all.

Bad Mojo Redux (curious about this)

I'm liking it, so far. But I think I'm about getting stuck...

2007 has been a bit of a washout for me, due to me renovating my first house despite not having a clue what I'm doing. The games I did manage to play were:

Broken Sword 4: Would have liked this game on its own terms if I wasn't such a fanboy of BS1. I long for the day they can release an installment to better it. As it was, it was part three of the disappointing 'Broken Sword: Shadow Of The First Game'  trilogy.

Runaway 2: Liked it better than Runaway 1 but a crushing blow at the ending. Will have to get Runaway 3 if it surfaces.

CSI: 3 Dimensions... & Hard Evidence: Not the greatest games in the world, but they appeal to my scientific nature (I'm a research scientist by trade) and were easy to pick up and play at irregular intervals as is necessary for me at the moment.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent: See above.

Murder On The Orient Express: Been playing this for about 3 months, on and off. It's OK but I spend the first half hour of a session working out where I am in the story and what I did last time. Becoming a real chore to play, but I paid good money for it and I hate leaving things unfinished.

2008 should be much better as I have a backlog of decent games:

Fahrenheit (which I'm particularly looking forward to)
Dreamfall
Secret Files: Tunguska
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened and v Arsene Lupin
Dead Reefs
Culpa Innata
Syberia 2
Evil Under The Sun

as well as those that come out this year. Belief and Betrayal will probably be the first of those. Not to mention non-adventures like Crysis, Bioshock and Call Of Duty 4.
Playing: Fahrenheit&&Reading: The Interpretation Of Murder - Jed Rubenfeld&&Watching: BBC's Life On Mars (again!)&&Listening: The Last Shadow Puppets

This year I've explored the genre and played some of the older games I've heard so much about. I must say all the oldies lived up yo my expectations.

Here's my list for 2007:

Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers
Barrow Hill
Beneath a Steel Sky
Dark Fall The Journal
Dark Fall Lights Out
The Moment of Silence
Post Mortem
The Sacred Rings
Zork Grand Inquisitor
Sanatarium

Of all these games only Post Mortem made me somewhat disappointed. I pretty much loved all the others!

I remembered a few more games that I played last year so I felt the need to add them:

Intrigue at Oakhaven Plantation - I beta tested this one. A fun little game, quite atmospheric with beautiful music and lovely graphics. Puzzles were ok and so was the story.

Super Jazz Man - The second Download-only game that I ever bought (the first was Aveyond if anyone's curious). I came with low expectations but was still disappointed. The graphics are nice, but it's really short and there aren't enough puzzles. I didn't like any of the characters, and there's an annoying arcade sequence near the end.
Also, for a game that's about Jazz, I didn't feel there was much emphasis on the music in the game.

I've also played plenty of freeware adventures this year like: The Oracle, Reactor 9, The Farm, Ben Jordan 6, Christmas Quest 3, 6 Days a Sacrifice, and a bunch of others...

I had the lousiest gaming year since I started playing adventures 8 years ago.  I have lots of games to play, but real life got in the way big time, so I played lots of casual and board games instead.  Here's my puny list.  (2008 should be much better!)

Laurie Anderson's Puppet Motel is a unique performance piece with hidden places to discover, thought provoking stories, and charming graphics.  The use of animation and video footage, humorous and serious subjects, and unexpected surprises kept me going back for more.  I still have it loaded to revisit now and again to see if I've missed anything.

The Cassandra Galleries is a good puzzle game with many areas to explore.  I enjoyed it, but it's too bad the story just fizzled out in the end.

Bone: Out from Boneville is a sweet little game.  (Love the dragon!)  Since there's no Mac port for the second one, I'm reading the book instead.

Replays for reviews:
The Messenger
The Castle
Inherit the Earth
