Personally, I do not rule out the possibility of life elsewhere. Or, as usual: What MichalN said.

I used to think that it would be the coolest thing ever to meet an alien (consider me to be one of the morons with signs on the roofs, in the movie Independence Day) but after reading an interview with Stephen Hawking, I'm not so sure I'd be happy about it... He said, that historically more advanced cultures has always managed to eradicate ancient cultures, and it would stand to reason that a species so advanced to manage space travel and so on, would probably disturb our ways to the point of extinction...
Heh, actually, every morning going to work, it feels they have infiltrated our world already, the subway seems full of extra terrestials.... Oh wait, intelligent was it?

This sums it up pretty well !

Feel free to ignore this post.
