I am so glad to hear someone else mention the "conceit" issue! You wouldn't believe the amount of people (especially the area where I live) that won't even consider the possibility.

If you make a math calc of probabilites, the result is that there has to be intelligent life elsewhere but I prefer the following POV: the Universe wasn't made for us. I'll never understand that almost "egoistical" attitude - it's like humans need to feel they're special and take the Universe as a gift to them.
