Silly question don't cha think? Who else but Fable? I read a lot of this garbage taking it lightly as the soap opera progressed. I have no idea who Fable is. As "its" posts continue  to pile the Persona dung heap higher it transitions from comical to sad. To me they read like a pathetic Juvenile attempt to dig one's self out of the hole. Fable you may have heard the old Cliche, "when you find yourself in a hole you can't get out of stop digging!"  Fable may be a he or a she I can't be certain. One title we can most certainly apply is "
rama Queen"

I totally disagree with you Len that the main issue is what transpired between Inferno and Steve Bovis. At least for myself.
The ONLY issue I ever had with this debacle is the much more upsetting attempted manipulation and deception by one of the developers- which when outed at GBers CONTINUED to pile more on this community.
You are acting like this FABLE, Laurie, MS Studios- whoever they are- created multiple accounts for unknown or harmless reasons. There are ways to promote your game without lying to your consumers, developers come on these boards all the time and are above board and honest with their identity to keep us informed about their product. Why couldn't he do the same?
I think what irks me the most, and why I have posted more on this thread than in my four years of membership here combined, is that I cannot stand people that shirk responsibilty, make excuses and then cut and run. If ONE genuine apology was issued from Steve this isse would have been dead and gone.

Actually Antler, it wasn't meant to be a serious question.

I was however being completely serious about not caring about this whole affair.

In reference to the hahahaha element in all of this, and posted for those whose interest has not thoroughly waned on this topic
,  I submit that in the Quandary interview with Steve Bovis, one of his replies contains a hahahaha....

I suspected that Terry. As I had not  commented on this thread before and your notion of a drama queen award struck me as very appropriate I kinda had to second your nomination.

I didn't actually make a nomination Antler.

That unimportant detail aside, I must warn you that my snide comment about drama queens quickly resulted in a polite PM request from one of our JA forum administrators to please avoid stirring up trouble with GameBoomers or other web sites that may have gotten caught up in this fiasco.

So we probably ought to drop it - even if the whole thing is beyond silly.

No offense, but if you think this whole thing is beyond stupid and not worth your time, then why even bother posting in it?  There are lots of threads I have no interest in so I don't post in them and I sure don't go out of my way to tell people not to continue it.

For me, the issue here has nothing to do with GB or Inferno despite several posters trying to take it in that direction. It's about a developer trying to BS his way on to websites and trying to get his game out there - essentially trying to con the very same people they are trying to sell their game to.  These are AG sites and ALL of them are VERY supportive of indie developers.

Want to get your game out there on the AG sites? It's SO easy. Email or PM any mod or owner of any of the AG sites and they will get the news out there.  It's that easy. You will practically never be ignored or told NO. If anything, they will probably share your excitement with you. That is why they started these sites - they WANT to help you, they WANT to support the genre. After that it is up to you to put out a good product so that the reviews are good and people will talk about how great your game is - and they WILL talk about how good it is if it is indeed good.  However, no one is going to polish a turd, so don't expect people to lie if your game is not so good.

The AG community is a rather tight knit group. We all have our differing opinions, but for the most part we bounce around from one AG site to another. Some are regular posters, some are regular visitors hiding in the shadows.  We come to these sites looking for news of games and discussing our thoughts on them and AGs in general.  In an atmosphere like that, there is no reason to resorting to some bizarre scheme and trying to con people into being interested in your game by posing as someone you aren't.  Not only was that a stupid thing to do, I think it shows a total lack of respect for the very people you are hoping will become your customers.

The ultimate irony in all of this is that there are people who truly did like the game, but instead of letting the game speak for itself, the developer shot himself in the foot by letting this fiasco overshadow their game... I truly hope that this really was a case of the developer letting their daughter promote their game and things took a really bad turn. The damage control needed some work though as every explanation for it seemed to add more pieces that just didn't fit together. If this was some bizarre stunt to draw attention to the game, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. The game was getting positive feedback and growing as people talked about it. There was absolutely no need for the stunt and since it happened BEFORE the reviews and feedback started to grow, it suggests a lack of confidence in the product on the part of the developer - which is pretty sad.

On a side note, never EVER try to jump on a mod or owner of a site in public especially if you are new to a site and the person is highly respected. If someone popped in on JA and tried to do that with Val, most of us here would have come out the the woodwork and jumped all over them. You mess with one bean, you have to take on the whole burrito! The regular posters on GB are a tight-knit family of sorts and I saw nothing wrong with them circling the wagons to stick up for one of their own. Treat your customers and supporters with respect and they will treat you back the same way. It's common sense.  :-/

I think Ivania speaketh the truth.

We here at the adventure sites really support the indie developers. There really should be no reason to ttry to create hype about Limbo of the Lost, especially when all you need to do is contact this site, adventuregamers, gameboomers or quandryland...

You will get your coverage, especially if the game is as great as Inferno (at gameboomers) think it is.

Ivinia, that's a heckuva good post and brings a perpective of both someone who has been both a typical participant on AG websites and an 'indie' developer. You have really fleshed out what I think is the most appropriate view of all this: Inferno and GB cannot be held responsible for how this all went wrong and, particularly, if this sort of thing had occurred at JA, there would have been a similiar backlash against those who gave rise to the mal-event in the first place. When people's good will, credibility and even honesty are put on the line, some degree of 'drama' (depending on how one defines drama) is going to inevitably be part of what results, regardless of gender or otherwise.

The future ain't what it used to be!

*snip*

I was referring specifically to dropping any further "drama queen" statements Ivinia. This I did in response to a PM request from one of our forum administrators who thought it would cause ill will with the people at GameBoomers.

As far as my general comments about this topic go, I took the time to read every single post in all the related threads at GameBoomers and have followed this thread since its beginning. I have every right to state - without reservation - that it was a total waste of time and that I find the whole thing to be silly at best. The only reason I returned to this discussion today was to make sure there weren't any further problems stemming from my admittedly snide "drama queen" comment.

One other detail I wanted to attend to was to issue a public apology to any GameBoomer members who may have read that comment and been put off by it. However, to Fable or whatever his/her name is, I offer no apology.

Cheers,  Terry

P.S.

As for the rest of your last post (snipped above), good job. I agree with Dave that it finally put this whole sordid mess into proper perspective.

Deleted UserSo the [s]butler[/s]Developer did it!
Thus several folk here have surmised.
i.e. he ticked off a Forum Mod and then assumed various nicknames on that Forum (and then on another).

And Mr. Steve Bovis did all this in order to get some cheap publicity for his game Limbo of the Lost.

Maybe... certainly an undeniable possibility!

All I can say is that if this is so, he must be an extremely tricky & cunning operator.  He also apparently has a very good idea of people's reactive-psychology.
I personally would never have guessed that such devious behaviour would result in an avalanche of (now) more than a hundred adventure publicity posts.

But those who maintain this have apparently far better sensors than I have, and are presumably much more aware of the underhand dirty tricks people can play on the Net !

Just to clarify: I don't think this was, overall, a premeditated or orchestrated stunt to get publicity. My guess is that it started with a relatively limited contrivance of a character, FABLE, that was presented as a regular player/beta tester helping a reviewer with the game, but who started acting outside the 'script' when the issue of hints and walkthroughs arose which resulted in the blowing of his cover. I may be wrong, but my guess is that this is one or two individuals or, more likely (IMO), just one, fairly young, individual who, though quite talented (assuming the game is as good as Inferno says it is), given his age range, got out of his depth when this all came crashing down.

People do such funny things and it never ceases to amaze me. Overall, though this has caused some justifiably hurt feelings (I know I would have been really p.o.'d), in the grand scheme of things it has turned out to be rather comical and relatively benign. It will be interesting to see what the future of Limbo of the Lost is. I hope it is the game Inferno says it is; any good new AG is a godsend these days.

The future ain't what it used to be!

Beg, steal, borrow........................you MUST get a copy of this game and play it.

Stealing seems to be the name of the game.
