Status : Offline | The "SL being faster than Cable" depends on the providers but, generally, DSL is just a tad faster. BUT Cable is much, much more practical - is just like having your PC in a network while in DSL you have to dial-up each time you want to connect to the web. I also found Cable more stable but, then again, it depends on the providers. Anyway, long live Cable

I have cable and use Getright. I average 350-400 k/sec. Sometimes more during non-peak times.

And once again - I didn't make the stuff up... I just had the lack of class to point it out.

What's really odd is: The Thesaurus has no entries for it...

And really, if you know the meaning, you must have realized it when you were typing in that ad

Status : Online | Asynchronous DSL is the type that is typically sold. This means that your downloads are faster then your uploads, usually significantly so. It's the same for cable modem service, in all the cable modem services I am aware of, the download is much faster than the upload.
As for whether you have to dial-up if you want to connect, using DSL, you don't have to "dial-up" but, depending on the software you use, you may have to log back on, if you reboot your machine. I maintain a home network, and my router keeps me automatically connected, no matter how many times I reboot my machines. Generally, once the connection is made, even if you don't have a router, you can specify that the connection be persistent, and your software will keep the connection active.
As for which is better, the answer is "it depends", on your provider, for DSL how far away you are from the source, and other factors. For most people, just being able to get one source of broadband is great.
A good place for broadband information is http://www.dslreports.com . They are stuck with their domain name, but they report on and discuss all broadband issues. Although somewhat US focused, they do talk about a variety of issues, worldwide. Their forums are excellent. The technical forums are extremely helpful, particularly to broadband newbies.
All for now.
Regards, mszv
