I've got the concept, the plot points, the puzzles, the premise...

...what now?

I was third in my school for the programming exam, but have done literally nothing since...

...is there a program I can take a look at that might help me impliment some of these ideas?

Where could I start?

I guess it must be as difficult to write a game for publication as it is to script a movie-- How does it work?

I guess I've got to live near the company or have a computer science degree before I'd even be considered-- am I right?

I'd suggest you might start with a third party game engine like : http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk, at least as a starting point.

That looks pretty interesting-- is it flexible enough to include sound puzzles? and puzzles involving databases?

If you're into programming I would reccomend SLUDGE (www.hungrysoftware.com). It also has the option to use arrays which can be helpful with the database concept you're talking about.

AGS is a fine engine, but more oriented towards people with 1% programming experience. It does have a scripting engine, but I'm not sure if it's powerful enough for you.

Hey "goober"

You said you had a plot, puzzles etc . .. down and you know how to program.

Are you interested in doing a mini adventure game or a demo game??

I'd be interested in doing some artwork/voice-acting for it possibly.  Especially if you use an egine that supports 32-bit SVGA graphics.
I hate to have my work pixelized).

Well if you dont mind getting stuck in to learning a language.  http://www.blitzbasic.com  is a great tool for DirectX development,  and its not a scripting engine so you can do pretty much what you like with it.

Hope that helps
