I'm aware that there are more people who think like you than people who think like me, but the great (only?) advantage independent developers have is that they only need to sell a small amount of copies to make some profit.

Status : Online | Let me specify what I liked and didn't like:
The good: -the voice acting is convincing and the story has potential although it starts rather cliché -nice backgrounds The bad :- steril graphics and characters move like they are puppets and to fast. Main character has had his hair cut by a blind person. Graphics are really bad.
Conclusion: the story has to be top notch if this adventure is going to be a succes. Let's wait and see.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

"In my youth," father Leonard replied to his son, "I feared it might injure the brain; But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none, Why, I do it again and again."

Wood would (hehe) look better than hagelslag (Yum yum)! [smiley=tongue.gif]
N.B. If you have no Dutch relatives (as I have) there's always Google. My late Dutch uncle (real...honest) used to bring it over to London from Amsterdam 75 years ago when he was 'courting' my aunt ... and as a child, I loved him for it !!

Both he and my aunt have been dead for quite a few years.
They had one child only, a son who has turned out to be a VERY 'important' British celebrity. He is of course one of my (15) first cousins and his name is Michael Van Straten.
You'll see pages & pages on him in Google starting with :-
Michael is a practising osteopath, naturopath, acupuncturist and nutritional consultant in Buckinghamshire. From broadcasting with LBC every weekend for 30 years, Michael’s voice is well known to Londoners. His many books have brought him to an even wider audience with his many bestselling, Superfoods etc., etc., etc., ............ didadida..................
.....................‘One of the major pioneers of the health food industry’. The Health Food Manufacturers’ Association named Michael the Health Journalist of the Year in 2004.

Back down to earth (the original thread) though :-
So many aspects about Quest/Adventures are VERY SUBJECTIVE :- e.g. 1st person or 3rd; 2D or 3D; mouse point & click or KB etc.; stand alone puzzles or 'integrated'; lots of dialog or little... and ditto reading material, etc.; and so on and so on.
And so all of our assessments are bound to be colored by our personal likes & dislikes. Unless a game is a complete dud, we can only offer an opinion !
To repeat :- Alkis is an Indie with limited (maybe very limited??) budget and time frame. He cannot achieve the graphic effects that are possible with a big team and large cash flow. Neither does he intend to sell DITR for around the large Companies' US$40 plus postage (expensive for us who live abroad)... but my pure guess is somewhere around half of that ?!?
He never pretends to provide magnificent graphics etc. He DOES however deliver an excellent interactive story with integrated puzzles, plus first class voice acting, realistic quality dialogs with full accurate English texts etc.

Well....since you asked... :
(DISCLAIMER: This is meant as a JOKE and exaggerations of half truths for those of you without any sense of humor.)
1.] Once you crossed over from being a game player to a game developer, you instantly became one of 'them'. After years of talking about games and being one of the masses, all it takes is the single mention of making a game to suddenly become an outcast and subject to scorn. You are Satan and that pisses people off.
2.] You are now everyone's bitch. As such, you must make the game they want which must include such-and-such interface. Any slight variation of what they fantasize that your game will be like or should be like will instantly drop your game into the very vague 'crap' category.
3.] You are no longer allowed to post your thoughts about ANYTHING on forums as anything posted can be: a] A clear indication that you are slagging off and not working on the game. Shut up and get back to work. b] Turned back on you if something you put in your game was something that you yourself said you hated on some post from 5 years ago. c] If you didn't like a particular game and mention it on the forums, some fanboy of that title will instantly go off topic and start ripping your game apart all because you had the audacity to criticize their baby. 4.] You're Greek.
5.] There are haters out there. They don't even know you, but they hate you anyway. Fortunately they are few and far between, but unfortunately they are the loudest and drown out everyone else. Haters are your biggest fans. No other group of people will so passionately follow you around and dissect everything you say and do.
The reality is that most people are pulling for you and looking forward to what you are doing. Don't let the few try to make you think otherwise.

I think the voice acting is first class so why not improving the other aspects of your game that are not nearly as good? Why go for good when it could be great? I have a different approach to thinks then people who think that everything you do is great because they have known you for a long time and think you are a great guy. My feeling when I played the demo of the game is that it is not nearly as good as it could be so back to the drawing table.

Trust me, nobody thinks that way. In fact it's my best friends here who give me the harshest criticism and keep asking for improvements. Len and Aya are Dutch uncles of the worst kind! [smiley=laughing.gif] It's just that some people (MOST people, obviously) value graphics a lot in a multimedia product whereas others may be willing to play a graphically sub-par title if the consider the rest of its features good enough.
Why go for good when it could be great?
Because, simply put, great (graphics) cost money. It's not a matter of will or hard work. I have to pay for every pixel you see in the game.

| Deleted User | It all depends upon whether criticism is :-
(A) Honest, sincere, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism with the sole objective to improve the game if possible ......... and not purely DESTRUCTIVE criticism.
(B) ....... and this applies particularly to the now many Indy Developers :- the criticism is VIABLE i.e. can be implemented in the framework of the Developer's financial budget resources and time restrictions ... and not just "pie in the sky".
(C) Whether the aspects criticized are of the maximum importance i.e. storyline, graphics; integrated puzzles or stand-alone; GUI; interface; dialogs; voice acting; 1st/3rd/mouse/KB/implementation; action inclusive or not; etc., etc. ***** It takes a large team with plenty of cash to get them ALL 100% (and even then, plenty of people grouch because it doesn't suit their particulat tastes!
