I mean, will I miss any story I should see or know? It would help if you played Uru first. The Yeesha in Uru is the one you'll meet in Myst V. She is a weird old (or at least middle-aged) woman in Uru and Myst V, who talks in riddles and can't say a thing in plain comprehensible speech to save her life. She's very different from the precocious little girl you meet in Myst IV.
I own URU. It is full 3D and it makes me sick to play it. I plan on going straight to Myst V End of Ages if I can. Myst V uses the same game engine as Uru, only you no longer have the ability to switch between 1st and 3rd person. If Uru made you sick, Myst V will make you sick too. In fact, Myst V made me sick a LOT while Uru only did so on rare occasions (like when my avatar was in close quarters).
Question: Is the engine in Myst V End of Ages the same as in Myst IV Revelation? I am worried that it might make me sick if it’s a full 3d type game like URU. I hope it works like Myst IV Revelation where you point and click to move around, rather than the dolly forward movement, like in URU. As I said before, Myst V uses a modified version of the Uru game engine. It is not like Myst IV.
Question: Are there any reviews, on the web, about Myst Revelation that explain how they made it? It does not look like a complete 3d type game like URU. It looks like a 2 ½ D type game. Myst IV is a node-and-panning type first person game with enhanced visual effects -- animations in the background and lighting effects. It is 2D in regard to the pictures, though the lighting apparently has 3D aspects. And it uses filmed footage for the actors, which is rare these days. 2.5D is usually used to refer to 3rd person games like Syberia, where you see a 3D character against a 2D prerendered background.

I called Myst IV Revelation 2 1/2 D because I did not know what else to call it. I know it does not make me sick like URU, which is full 3D. I have both Syberia I and II, so I know what you mean about 2 1/2 D game.
It's sad, but I guess Myst IV Revelation will be the last Myst game I can play. I own URU and it makes me sick. If Myst V is made the same way, there is no way I can play it. Even with Myst Revelation, I have to be careful to not pan too quickly or look up or down too fast. If I do, I get that feeling like I'm looking down from a tall building, and get dizzy. I wish game makers would be thoughtful enough to make Adventure Games with a switch to turn 3D AG into point and click node mode. I am sure they could do it with a little extra programing. It would be kind of a short range Zip mode. Click and you move to the door. Click again and you move to the desk. The player could look around in any direction, but the camera would be locked to a node.
Anyway, thanks for the information on Myst V.

Status : Online | You can play Myst V in three movement modes:
- Full 3D mode like URU but with better navigation
- Classic mode, which is like the original Myst and Riven interface with no panning
- Classic plus mode which is like Myst III and IV node-to-node with 360-degree panning
So you might be OK to play it.
In my opinion it is more of a URU sequel than a Myst sequel. It didn't have the sense of gradually uncovering a tragic personal story that the true Myst series does.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

It's not like you're instantly there, the way you are when you click forward in Myst IV. I had to look away from the screen during transitions to keep down the motion sickness.
Of course different things make different people sick. Some people get sick from node-and-panning games (like Myst IV) but not from 1st person real time 3D games (like Myst V).

If it shows the transition, it would make me sick also. I need instant transition like in Myst IV. If I play Myst V at all, it will have to be in full 3D. I will probably buy it and give it a try.
It helps me to move slowly in a 3D game and to keep from panning too quickly. It also helps to use a walkthrough and just move carefully from puzzle to puzzle. This makes the game less fun, but it eliminates all that panning and zooming you do when you're searching for clues.
The game makers for AG act like those of us who get motion sickness don't even exist. I wish they would at least give us a node-to-node switch that is instant. This would at least give us a fighting chance to play AGs. I am finding that I can play less and less AGs because the new 3D ones make me sick.
