I, for one, would appreciate a swap-only thread here.  I appreciate the ads from you salespeople, and some of you have good old games, but perhaps you can advertise elsewhere...or, offer any game up for trade, as well as sale. I think all of us here know about eBay and would go there if we wished to purchase.

For some of us on a limited budget, swapping is excellent (AKA the only) alternative to cash, and I'm always let down to find mostly self-serving advertising here, instead of a community resource.

Thanks.

As someone who doesn't use ebay, I agree.

Maybe there should be a stickied Ebay thread, to not crowd the forum.

Perhaps so. JA does sell games, as well. Seems like there could be a solution for sales vs swap.

I might even be willing to RENT a game (old ones only, of course...we want people to buy the ones still for sale!) for a couple of weeks for a reasonable fee, then return it.  Could be a nice profit center for some enterprising adventure-oriented site that gets a million hits a month....unless there are rights issues.

Details, please? I've been there and see nothing about "borrowing" games. Not sure how that would work without copyright infringement...still.  Elaborate, please.

In the "Game Trade Sell or Borrow" section of Mystery Manor's forum, some people are kind enough to lend their games to others, free of charge. There are a few threads dedicated to this, but nothing is official.
It's like borrowing a game from a friend.

Mostly laziness. I'm too lazy to figure out exactly how it works. I'm too lazy to track down and follow auctions. I'm too lazy to check if a seller is shipping worldwide or not. I'm too lazy to figure out how paypal works to make my life easier.

Also, I'm afraid to start, for fear that I'll start buying like crazy.
Not that this excuse helped me with Amazon.com, as I've been ordering things from there...(Not much though. International shipping from Amazon is friggin' expensive).

You don't have to buy - but, I know what you mean.

What?

Ghostlady posts threads on Mystery Manor every few months offering to lend really old games for free. I myself was able to borrow two very rare games, The Vampire Diaries and Cassandra Galleries from her.

I don't like the way eBay works, but I try to use it anyway because you can find really great deals, and I mean REALLY great deals. I got Alone in the Dark 2 back from about 1994 shrink-wrapped in a box for $5 including shipping...and also got Ghosts for $20 in a jewel case. I was also able to find Night Cafe, which is virtually unattainable. So even though I agree that eBay's complicated, I think it's worth it.

Halcyon if you ever find a site where there is only trade games, I hope you will share it with us. I have never found one.
I have often traded games I have for sale too.
I have often bought games from gamers at lower prices because I can't afford to pay the original price.  I appreciate the opportunity. I don't consider that to be "self serving" Often times the price of the games don't even pay for the postage and packaging.

Personally, I won't watch those auctions on Ebay either.  I just find a good deal with a BuyIt option.  I got Drac 1&2 for $10.98 with shipping.  You can't find games in stores for $5.50 apiece.  I thought it was a good enough deal.  Easy.  No fuss, no muss.

I'm not poor, I just don't have any money.

I have no problem with doing both in this forum, BUT I DONT like when you have to follow a link to Ebay or anywhere else to see what they are selling.
If they want to sell it here then POST IT HERE!  >

Personally, I have no problem clicking on a link as long as the game titles are listed in the post with some basic information such as whether it has the box and manual.  Ebay links usually require 2 clicks to actually see the game, but right clicking and opening a new window/tab to see the items is really no big deal unless your using a 56K modem which would probably be a long wait.

Anytime I have listed games here I always try to have a link to an actual picture of the game if it's not on Ebay.

Cheers,
 Nick     8-)
