Status : Offline | Hi Lakerz, Again, thanks for the info. I checked into a dual boot at both Alienware and Hypersonic and they no longer do it. They only offer and support XP. So, I guess if I wanted a dual boot I would have to do it myself. This would create two problems. One, I have no idea how to do it and two, I think this would probably void the warranty. I also checked some other companies and same thing. I guess XP is taking over the world!

as for dual boot it's not very hard as long as you know how to install windows

So, even if you can get a computer company to do a dual boot (which is not easy anymore) the only OS that they will provide support for is XP. If someone buys an Alienware system, for example, and creates their own dual boot for it by adding, say 98SE, I believe that would void the warranty. I am not 100% sure on this yet but, so far that's how it looks.
Thank you for not arguing with me (just kidding)

Status : Offline | well, without arguing at all, that's just another reason for me not to support pre-made comps... it's CRAZY not to be able to do whatever the hell you want with your pc! if i want to remove winxp and install 98, 95, 3.1, dos, linux, amiga workbench, dual boot, quadrable boots etc etc, then it's MY pc and it's MY decision... anyway, whatever :

No, there is no warranty whatsoever on the software. Read the license agreement. If it don't work, tough luck. That's how the software world works.

Status : Offline | Incorrect...Any computer company will give support for software as well as hardware for the warranty period. You mean to tell me that if I buy a system today with a 1 year warranty, and I have a Windows problem tomorrow, and I call the company that I bought it from, they will tell me sorry we can't help you because your problem is with software and not hardware?! I would be completely out of luck in getting support for my OS problem even though I have a 1 year warranty??? That would be completely illegal for Christ's sake!

Well, if the problem is, say, that someone broke into your system because of a security hole that MS was too lazy to fix, what do you think they will do for you?
I strongly suggest that you read the full EULA. You might discover that you were severely shortchanged. No waranty is a very typical clause in all software license agreements. In fact I can't think of any software that is warranted. And no, it is not illegal, because you agreed to it.
