Aya disappear? Never.   8-)

So P. Brody unsubscribed because he didn't want to be here anymore, and immediately people start worrying if he's okay. Why wouldn't he be.   :
I've missed the many interesting people who had something of value to say but who either left or in some cases were banned.
I already miss petter.
I won't miss P. Brody.

Petter has gone too?

I've just noticed that Speck has gone too.  What's happening that I don't know about?

I hate it when people leave without saying goodbye.

Speck did say goodbye. Maybe Petter did too. But his post was DELETED almost immediately by one of the mods. Not because of any namecalling, profanity, racism, sexism, religious bashing, P&R comments, links to warez or porno sites, or stalking , quoting the new rules as posted by Val, but because he explained that he did not want to be part of a JA where threads in non-P&R sections are locked for no good reason (or words to that effect). I wish I'd saved his post while I still could, I would repost it. And be banned for it of course.

The guidlines are not rules meant to restrict forum members from posting or expressing themselves, says Val. No? The forum moderation went from total laissez-faire to a virtual dictatorship. Almost overnight. Oh sure, I know... a forum is never a democracy, posters don't have "rights". Of course the owner and administrators can do as they please.  But the kind of authoritarian, repressive moderation where posts are deleted without a trace, where threads are locked for no good reason, is the WORST kind of moderation. Unfair to all concerned. We don't need another Gameboomers, with 5 percent real sugar and 95 percent saccarine sweetness, where no-one dares speak their mind.

I considered unsubscribing when one of my posts in the P&R forum was deleted for 3 reasons (paraphrasing and quoting from memory):
1. I had not participated in that particular thread before.
2. My post was not considered "relevant" or "helpful".
3. I was "nitpicking".
It should be obvious that I don't agree with those judgements, because that's what they are, but if those are valid reasons for deleting an entire post which is not in violation of any of the rules, the JA forum is digging its own grave.

I almost unsubscribed when it finally dawned on me that the P&R forum was not even kept on as an archive. Gone forever, both the good and the bad. I could feel it in my stomach, so sad. That decision must have been easy for people who didn't give a damn about the P&R section to begin with, but in my not at all humble opinion it also shows a lack of respect for the P&R posters.

I'm glad I didn't unsubscribe though, or I wouldn't have seen with my own eyes how Speck's post was removed by a trigger-happy  mod.

I'll make a prediction: this post will mysteriously disappear in a few minutes. Without a trace.

So I'm going to send a copy to a few people -- enemies and friends.

Deleted UserWow... things move quickly nowadays !
It's 4:20 pm in Israel,  3:20 pm in the Netherlands and 9:20 am in New York.

About 15 minutes ago I saw your above post Betje.  5 minutes later I received your copy by PM (unnecessary actually since I made a full Save of the whole thread [including this post] onto my HD for posterity).  5 minutes after that, in order to make my following copy/paste I see that you are alreay an ex-member.

~~~ Betje ~~ ... So I'm going to send a copy to a few people -- enemies and friends.
I assume that I'm one of the friends !!  [smiley=cool.gif]  [smiley=beer_buds.gif]
Addendum :-
I'm not au fait with the technicalities... I thought that before registering and becoming a member, nobody could post on the Forum.
I assumed that this is ALSO the case after members resign (and become ex-members)... but is this correct ??
I'm going to make a statement here and then provide one hour (until 11:30am) for responses and then lock this thread as I'm sure some people may not be mature enough to reply in a civil manner.
First of all, this is a site about adventure games.  While I did not mind having other subjects on the forum, most people are here to have fun and exchange intelligent ideas and conversation, not to continually fend off attacks from others due to their personal beliefs.
Unfortunately, there are a few thin-skinned people in today's world  - and appearantly who also frequented the JA Forum - who interpreted every remark on the forum - that they disagreed with - as racist, or sexist, or  - and this is the biggie - Jew baiting, or whatever else they could conjure and behind the scenes they were emailing the JA staff threatening to report us to every anti-defamation league in the world, etc. etc.    Now we have never cowtailed to the whims of one person before and nor did we this time, but the entire JA Forum staff had had enough based on a cumulation of past incidents and they begged me that the P&R be closed.  This was a mutual decision by five people.  Anyhow, the person doing the majority of the bitching still closed his account even though the P&R forum was now closed as he somehow believes that JA harbors Jew haters.  This person knows who he is and shame on him for being so gutless as to just disappear.
As for you Betje, you are a trouble maker of the worst kind - you have been given free reign for years  - as have others - to express your personal opinions on JA without being edited as you would be at other sites - yet all you can do is complain about how unfair we are because we removed the P&R Forum.  It would have been nice if, for once, you could refrain from being such a petty ass and try to see the big picture as to how the crap that went on at the P&R forum negatively effected JA, but then I wouldn't expect you to see anyone's side but your own.  When you are running and paying the fees for your own site, feel free to do as you wish at the expense of others, but until that time, please don't let the door hit you in your ass on the way out.  And please feel free to send a copy of this to a few people - friends and enemies.
I will give you credit for this though, you voice your opinions up front and don't stab people in the back.  Many of you would be shocked to know how many people who you thought were your 'friends' were actually in private emailing JA Forum staff and complaining about everything imaginable on the P&R Forum.  How some of these people manage to live with themselves is beyond me as they seem to seem to disagree with anything and everything that is posted and then instead of confronting the issue, they send emails to me or Val or Aya threatening to quit the site forever if we don't put so-and-so in their place and inform them that their opinion is wrong.  Well, guess what, Randy, et al has had enough of the whining and complaining and the backstabbing.  So to the P&R Forum - R.I.P. - and for the rest of you who have some common sense and enjoy exchanging ideas about games and issues of the day that are not politically or religiously motivated - thank you for your continued support of JA and please let us know what you would like to see on the JA Forum that could increase participation.
Randy
After 11:30am, anyone who has a complaint or words of encouragment, please feel free to email me at randyja@justadventure.com.
The recent backlash of the closing of the P&R forum has been unsettling to everyone.  Members have left, more members are threatening to.
I would like to back up Randy by saying that the closing of the P&R forum was not a decision made lightly.  It was discussed for months, patterns of posting were examined, and reactions were monitored.  P&R had been "on probation" since October, and its re-opening was met with a brief period of improved behavior before descending, again, into petty bickering, name calling, and intolerance of other's beliefs.  To those who were offended, I will be forever amazed that they continued to even click on the P&R forum link.  All staff have been bombarded with pm's complaining about postings made by others.  Many of you were deeply offended.  This is first and foremost an adventure gaming site, and in the interest of keeping the peace, the P&R forum was closed.
Our position is a hard one, believe it or not.  When we receive pm's from someone, we try to address that person's concern as quickly and to the best of our ability.  Please believe that we try our best to handle each situation as fairly as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
