Deleted UserI just read that russian and japanese scientists are now cooperating in an attempt to clone a live mammoth! This summer they found mammoth bones in Sibiria with intact DNA and even perfecly preserved cells, 10000 years old. They have enough material for several tests.

This could have come right out of a sci-fi novel in the 50's, but now it's a reality, and I'm all for it! This will hopefully teach us a lot of important thing not only about the mammoth, but of evolution in the last 10000 years.

Jurassic Park is not far awyay...

That is amazing and Yes I am for it too.

I take it that the temperatures were such a constant cold that it kept it intact.

Wow,  something from 10,000 years ago, exciting and a bit scarey.

Wonder if they will find anything else in the area.

Deleted UserWow. I cant believe what im reading. I dont know much about Mammoths though. But arent they  dangerious creatures? I mean a voilent one? With thier size anythings destructable. Yikes! The future is really scary, to think about it.

Gosh , what if they found DNA of those prehistoric humans from the Mommoth time. I wonder if they're going to make it alive too. I wonder if we'll have mutants in the future.Hmm.

Deleted UserYes, the mammoths were permanently frozen in ice after they died. A frozen body cannot be revived with modern technology because the ice crystals cuts up the finer structures of the body, but DNA survives, and maybe they can even revive individual cells.

Wheter the mammoth were violent or not is something I don't think anyone really knows. After all, no living person has seen one alive. They look very similar to elephants, and they are relatively peaceful creatures. Their huge tusks probably had the same purpose as with other animals, namely so that it could be seen who is the strongest male so that fights can be avoided. Also, they lived in a very cold and barren part of the world, so I don't think they would have had a tendency to waste precious energy on being violent.

But I can imagine that killing one in the stone age was a very dangerous business, and required very brave people...

Maybe they can find frozen bodies of other animals up in Sibiria too, but the smaller they are, the harder they would be to find.

Deleted UserI just remembered that mammoths are furry animals . It means that they have to stay in Sibira or in any cold place. I wonder if one day it does exist and it desides to go to Africa, what will happen to it because of thier thick fur. And maybe somebody would breed it for  the fur. IIRC, thats one cause of thier death. Poachers.
