Status : Offline | Kate I am playing Aura 2 right now. It's not at all like Myst. For the beginning section I have a companion who chatters away to me. And the puzzles are a lot like Syberia - you know, small inventory, fetch and carry stuff. Yes there are buttons but they're pretty easy to figure out - so far.
It's not as tough as Myst. Besides, the Shadow Legion are trying to kill me.
Have you played Aura 1? Well the beginning is not as tough as that although at first I thought it was but the more I explored the more I discovered. Besides, if you get stuck after giving it your best shot, there's always the w/t.

Well there is a demo you could try before buying the game, just to be sure you like it.

Status : Offline | I am convinced that the makers of Aura 2 deliberately made it easier and different from Aura 1. The inventory nature of the puzzles reminds me so forcibly of Syberia 1. The artwork too is so reminiscent of Valadilene, you know, the cable car stations.
There is one other feature that is sooo Syberia. I have to keep going back and forth to the same people for snippets of conversation and the performance of small tasks. To be honest, I keep forgetting what it is I'm really trying to do.
All in all though, a charming game. I even forgive it for killing me, because I took heed of the warnings and saved a game.

This is the first time I remember seeing anyone say Aura 2 reminded them of Syberia, but the early part of the game reminded me very much of Syberia too. Both games have that "run-down 19th Century technology" look about them, as well as the Art Nouveau/Art Deco-influenced architectural features in the buildings.
Have you gotten to the Shadow Lair yet, Caroline? That part of the game had some of the more Aura-like puzzles. (Unfortunately it also had a few other things I didn't care so much for)

Status : Offline | I have just arrived at the Shadow Legion's lair and been killed. :-/
I'll have to check out my options more carefully next time. This concept reminds me of Atlantis Evolution. So far, NOTHING is reminding me of Aura 1. [smiley=rofl.gif] There is no sense of playing a sequel. People who disliked Aura should really give this game a whirl. The graphics are very nicely drawn.
I liked the candle puzzle, that was neat. I'm sick and tired of the cable car rides and took to pressing spacebar to skip them. What a shame, the coolest part of the game and I got fed up with it.
On the positive side, unless it proves impossible, this is definitely a game I expect to finish. It is quite enjoyable, just not very Aura-ish.

Status : Offline | I got killed a lot in the Shadow lair too, but it wasn't as bad as Atlantis Evolution. It was pretty annoying though to have to save every time I wanted to test a door. An autosave would have been a big improvement (as would more save slots). And then I got badly lost in that place too, though I think the worst part was finding my way through those rocks and caves.
I haven't decided exactly what the Shadow Lair part of the game reminds me of. It's certainly not like Syberia. Maybe a little like Necronomicon with all the filthy-looking broken down stuff... or some other horror game.

It's in the same category with that maze in the Maya world of Beyond Atlantis/Atlantis II, only it's worse because you have exits up and down as well as in 360 degree horizontal directions.

To me it reminded me of the Dracula Resurrection/Last Sanctuary games back at Dracula's Castle.

Status : Offline | I had been anticipating this game, and almost preordered it before it came out, but I'm glad now I didn't. It doesn't sound much like the first game at all. I'll probably give it a try at some point, but definitely not while it's retailing for $30. Rather disappointing to hear how it turned out. :-/

Status : Offline | Andromous It's a charming game, just not Aura. I personally think it's cheating to be able to leap and climb without telling you that you can do that first and giving you keystroke options. It just feels like this part of the game has different rules.
Definitely buy it when the price drops. I bought mine off ebay from USA so it was cheaper than I'd pay for it here.
I'm rating this game on the same level as Syberia. I do find it odd that my quest is turning out to be a series of errands for people because I keep forgetting what it was I wanted from a person before I had to go and do their errand.
I had hoped and half expected it to be like Aura 1 or Schizm 2, full of stand alone logic puzzles. At least I don't have a huge inventory like in Return to Mysterious Island.
It's very immersive though, and pretty to look at.
