1: Baltar needs a HAIRCUT and shave!!!!
2: I have tons of scrapbooks with my daughter's drawings.  oes that mean I get to start beating the crap out of her (like Kara's mom) and she'll forgive me on my deathbed?
3: I'm getting a little tired of Lee and his "addy issues". If he was a girl, he'd be dancing on a pole just to piss him off.

This whole last season was nothing more than one long soap opera set in space with only occassional moments of real tension.
Besides the drama-queen daddy issues and cheesey questions of Cylon identity, we also had oodles of mommy issues, romantic angst, love triangles and marital problems galore, not to mention misplaced maternal feelings, child labor and racial issues, infant kidnapping / child custody issues, medical malpractice + corrupted ethics due to racism, freedom of speech and religious issues, chronic alcoholism, gambling addictions, and an overly dramatic, tumultuous trial dripping with guilt trips, suppression of evidence, breaches of the military code of honor at the highest levels as well as outright perjury by a key prosecution witness, the attempted murder of the accused by the very same key prosecution witness, the attempted murder of the gruffly disheveled, audacious loner of a lead attorney for the defense by who-knows-who plus accusations of drug abuse, presidential misconduct, and oh yes - a surprise, disease-of-the-week twist at the end.
All the while, for the most part, the main epic storyline was hardly advanced an inch.
In other words, compared to the first two seasons, this past one sucked.
Cheers, Terry

I watch this show and I can't remember 1/10th of what you've just listed. Wow.....
Lemme see.... I remember Starbucks gets her man who gets sick and Baltar loses the plot down a million cleavages and then the Cylons appear...
All the rest, frankly is just soapie stuff that I enjoy for the relaxation. I have put this show in the same bracket as Desperate Housewives and Lost. They're making it up as they go along. [smiley=shrug.gif]

Status : Online | This season started out really great with the New Caprica story. In my opinion, the first five episodes (Occupation, Precipe, Exodus 1&2 and Collaborators) are among the best the series has ever done. After that, we got the virus 2-parter, which I still liked, but not as much.
Unfinished Business was actually one of the first episodes I didn't like. I must admit that it told the story it was telling in a very good way. It's just that I didn't like the story it was telling at all! And it started the whole love quadrangle which, in my opinion, is the worst part of the third season. Except for that I still liked it until we got to all the filler episodes. I don't necessarily mind filler episodes, but the problem was that we got three in a row. The Woman King wasn't particulary interesting, but also not really dull. It seems that most people hate that episode just because it was a Helo episode. For me, it was okay, but not really more than that. A Day in the Life, however, really was dull. I never really like the concept of "a day in the life of...." since by definition nothing really worthwile is going to happen in such an episode. Add to that the fact that they never really succeeded in making it a "a day in the life of ..." episode (most people even thought it was a Tyrol episode, which was never the intention). I did quite like "irty Hands", however. It was certainly the most succesful of the three filler episodes.
Then, there was Maelstrom, a really good Kara episode (leagues ahead of "Scar", in my opinion). Following that there was "The Son also Rises", which was just a setup for the last two episodes. On the one hand, it had a weak little mystery but on the other hand it had some very good scenes about Kara (which were really necessary, since Maelstrom ended so abruptly) and it introduces Romo Lampkin, who was one of the most interesting guest star characters the series has seen so far. I must admit the trial itself was a bit underwhelming, but it really works better if you watch the last two episodes together. And I really did like Lee's speech at the end of the trial. And I absolutely loved the last ten minutes! The "All Along the Watchtower" sequence was great! It might be a bit cheesy, brining the character back like that, but I loved the way it was shown, which really is wat matters (that and a plausible explanation of course). I won't comment on the four cylons until I've seen the explanation given in season 4 (which is taking waaaaaay too long.... :-/ )
Overall, I enjoyed this season. I admit it wasn't as good as the first two, but it also wasn't nearly as bad as a lot of people claim. My feeling with season three can be compared to the feeling I had when watching "The Return of the King" : It has some of the best episodes of the entire series, but unfortunately, also some of the worst....

Status : Offline | I agree that the season was often soapish and predictable, but there were still some excellent dramatic moments, too, especially with Kara.
I was bothered in the last episode by some of the jarring and edgy editing (quick shots, confused sound and music) which was supposed to show the confusion of the characters but actually left me confused and a bit annoyed for a while. I was also frustrated a few times when the background sound masked the dialogue/monologue. On the whole, I agree that it was the weakest season, but I do want more.
As a side note, has anyone here watched the original BSG? I saw it on TV every week when it first aired in the late 1970s, and loved it then. It's rather corny now, and the characters are more stereotypical than those in the newer version, but it was great fun at the time. I think it only lasted 2 seasons, but I want to get the set and watch it for old time's sake.

SciFi channel will occasionally run the Galactica 1980 series. I might try to catch it next time.

Status : Online | I hope you are right, Michelle... But why don't they question their Cylon identity? I mean, they do protest, but not very much. The choices make sense and I'm not too sure that they are not Cylons... The show would have jumped the shark for me in that case, though.
I think Kara is supposed to be a Cylon, too, right? That would make the Five, then.
I don't think Lee did it because of daddy issues. That's what it looks like, but there's more to it. His speech was very nice and nailed it. That's what BSG is like most of the time. None of them is without fault. That's what's interesting about this show. They have driven it over-the-top, but all in all I still liked the 3rd season.

| Deleted User | I think they are cylons and it's been hinted for a long time that Kara is a cylon too, which also would explain her return. It's all a bit too obvious but I'm still inclined to believe it. We have the two closest to the President and the Admiral, respectively, as cylons. There's also the love story between Kara and Anders to play on... I think they are cylons as suggested.
Season 3 was definitely more soapy than the earlier ones, but the whole show has been soapy from the beginning. It reminds me of season 3 of Lost. If they can get focus back to the story after this, it will lift these shows again. Character depth is good, but when it's been explored to a certain degree, it becomes hard to make up plausible new episodes. As in any long-running soap, the plot eventually becomes silly, with people doing the strangest things in terms of their characters just because there has to be some new drama.
Too bad the show will be off the air for so long. I'm looking forward to season 4 already. However, it might be an opportunity to pick up the original series and watch through all of that in the meantime.
