Hi,

This is a question for all experienced vintage adventure game collectors. Does anyone know approximately how much a shrink-wrapped, boxed Creature Crunch is worth? In excellent condition, of course.

Just for the record.

Thanks!

Well, it's still apparently available for sale here for $19.95. I say "apparently" because the main page for the site is blank, so it makes me wonder if the store is still being actively maintained as well.

Thanks! So it's possible that that page is old and they're all gone now, and increasingly rare?

It's a rarer game, but the game doesn't seem to be that valuable these days. JA's review makes mention of the game regularly selling for 500-600 dollars at one time. However, I picked up a jewel case copy a few years ago for $10. And the handful of copies that are on eBay aren't going for very much, unfortunately. Now the fact that your copy is new and shrink wrapped could make all the difference -- nearly all of the copies I'm seeing for sale aren't. Game Trading Zone has has a new unopened copy going for $50.

Yes, it's weird how I've heard all the talk of $500, but then seeing some on eBay for $0.99 & $1.99 left me confused. But you're right, they're only in jewel cases and not in the box.

Thank you for your help!

at the time we posted that review, Creature Crunch was extremely rare and actually did sell on Ebay for a lot of money.  I think the one that sold for that much though was an autographed copy which was signed by the game's voice talent.

No sooner did we post the review then the game's developer 'discovered' he had a garage full of unsold copies of the game and put them for sale on his website and he sold a lot of them due to our review.

So of course we then began receiving letters from readers that the game could be purchased for $20 new, were we crazy posting it was selling for $500 etc. as if we were trying to drive up the price.

In fact, the above reminds me of a story.

Another developer friend of mine made a game many years ago that is now considered very rare, especially as it was never released in the U.S.  A boxed copy of this game usually sells for a couple of hundred dollars (I don't want to give away his name for reasons that will soon become clear).

He has an attic full of the boxed copies of this game, so about twice a year, when he needs some extra money he puts a copy or two for sale on Ebay.

So it's not really that rare anymore? Thanks for your story and info.

As far as you know, is that site still active and taking orders for the game?

The site doesn't seem to be active anymore. I placed an order a couple of days ago to see what would happen, and got a notice back today from PayPal saying no one had claimed the payment, something I've never encountered before in my years of using PayPal.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about that.

I guess it means it's no longer available for $20. Thanks for trying that!

Sorry to bump this thread, but I thought I should weigh in here, as I'm a bit of a collector.  Video games generally don't hold a lot of value unless they're unopened (as in your case) or very few copies were made/imported (Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn comes to mind).  The value placed on a game is really subjective.  I paid a good deal of money for an unopened Space Quest 1 box a little while ago, but not too many people would have done this.  It was just that I really loved that game when it first came out and I wanted a copy of it, so I was willing to pay a fairly steep price for a fairly worthless item (I say "worthless" because it's an unopened box...the game can't be played or anything...it just kinda sits there).  All collectibles, games included, are only worth what people are willing to pay for them.

According to what I've seen, a jewel case of Creature Crunch retails for $15 at most.  However, I saw a USED game with a box for $35 not too long ago, so yours could easily be worth more.  Had I an attachment to that game, I'd probably offer you 50 bucks.

Exactly the same basis people buy and sell bottles of wine for ridiculous prices.  Art now, at least you can enjoy looking at the picture.

PS  I think collecting stuff in boxes is silly.  I don't understand folk who hoard matchbox cars or trains in their boxes.  Some things need to be played with.   And one day, when I manage to convince my husband that NOW is a good time to open that 1983 bottle of cab sav, it will probably have turned into vinegar....   :-/
