Hi all.

I`m new here and new to IF`s in the modern term. I used to play a couple many years ago namely Quest Adventure by Hewson Consultants and The Hobbit both on a rubber keyed Spectrum 48k.

Now by chance I stumbled upon IF`s when searching for something each and it re-ignited my flame to try them again so I have been doing a little hunting and think I have downloaded what I need to play these IF`s on my Windows XP PC and Palm Zire 71 PDA.

So can anyone tell me if what I have downloaded is correct and if I`m missing anything.

Firstly the interpreters I have for Windows so far.

TADS 3
HUGO 3.1
WINDOWS FROTZ
GLULXE
GARGOYLE

Now PDA interpreters.

FROTNITZ
KRONOS 1.47

Now there is another question which I think will be a little harded to answer but I will give it a go.

I`m the sort of text adventure player who like to explore rather then having to solve endless puzzle`s. I don`t mind a small amount of puzzles as long as there are not to difficult, but also not to easy. I like to be able to find object that will be used latter in the adventure (EG you find a key but as such have not found a locked door but wil do latter the story). Also I like to find say items of treasure that must be returned to set place and yuo gain your points dependen on what you find or you have to find the parts of an object to re-construct the original object to complete the story.

I also like the ones where you can collect money or gold piece along way to buy object or in the case of Quest Adventure on the speccy to buy magicspell`s which you can use to help you progress. You know I guess the fantasy type games with goblins and orchs and wizards and the like.

With the above in mind could anyone suggest any IF`s that would fit.

Guess thats it for about now.

Keith.

Hi,

I used to play adventure games on the Spectrum and Amstrad machines and eventually got to write my own using PAW (Professional Adventure Writer). With the demise of the 8 bit machines I felt lost. However, having a software engineer as a son, I persuaded him to re-write PAW to run on a PC without any emulation problems. The result was ACE. (Adventure Creation Environment) I have converted many of my old games to run using ACE and several of my writer friends have done the same. The games are available on our website for download. Try it out and see if you like it.
