I think it would be interesting to see whether there is a consensus on the difficulty of Adventure games. In reviews, the difficulty of the game is often related to the experience of the gamer eg. 'this game will likely appeal only to experienced Adventure gamers, neophytes will be discouraged.'

I propose a simple difficulty rating system of 1 to 5 where 1 is the Easiest and 5 is Most Difficult. As a standard benchmark, I suggest using Myst as having a value of 3 which would be Moderately difficult. Hence:
1=very easy, 2=fairly easy, 3=moderately difficult, 4=fairly difficult, 5=very/most difficult.
(Note- I'm not suggesting I invented this system- something like it is used by some reviewers).

Using this system, I think it would be interesting to hear how those of you who've completed various adventure games would rate them. New adventure gamers would find this useful in figuring out where to start. I'll start off by suggesting the following:

The Sacred Amulet: 1-2
Riddle of the Sphinx: 3
The Crystal Key: 3-4

Not to get too simplistic, but perhaps give an example (real or made-up) of each level...i.e: 1=Very easy--an 8 year-old can solve the puzzles with some ease. The plot is emphasized here rather than puzzle-solving abilities, etc..

5=Very difficult. Go get a Phd in Engineering and/or Advanced Physics before tackling this game, etc..

Deleted UserInteresting concept.

I have not played it but I hear that Schizm is a killer. Maybe that would be a five star degree of difficulty.

That's an interesting part of this subject: what sets the standard for each category. From what I've heard, Schizm would be a 5, but since I haven't completed it yet (have it installed but have to complete other games first), I can't personally give it a difficulty grade.

Maybe it's a 5 just because its name was so difficult, the manufacturer is changing it!
