What is the only word in the English language that if you remove the last 4 letters of the word, it is still pronounced exactly the same!

Hint:  Nope, sorry, too early for a hint.

queue?

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Actually, there are a pair of other words (terms more likely - but, only a handful of folks will know them)...

ENQUEUE / DEQUEUE

wouldn't ENQ and DEQ be pronounced ENK and DEK?

What do these terms stand for?

ENQUEUE: An operation that adds an element as the last element to a queue.

DEQUEUE: removes it.

Both are tech terms - ENQUEUE is used to serialize a resource (such as a Data Set - or file) this ensures that only a single "owner" can hold exclusive rights (basically locking the resource, and ensuring integrity).

What?

Well, if I stated (and I did) that ENQUEUE and ENQ were the same word - just where are we having a problem?

What?

So they are one and the same word, yes?
Then we have no problem!

But thanks a lot for giving the definitions.
Any users of certain shady software might be aware of them...  *whistles*

Hey, do you guys think that maybe next time you could wait at least 5 minutes before coming up with the right answer so that I could at least feel smart for a little  bit?
