Status : Online | The first graphic adventure I played was Maniac Mansion for the NES, and I've been a fan of LucasArts ever since. At least, I've been a fan of THAT LucasArts, not the company that's currently masquerading around as LucasArts.
There's no denying that Sierra was more prolific in their adventure games than LA was and there's also no denying that some of those games were really great, but I still have to go with LA. Games like Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, those games were just the best of the best as far I'm concerned. You guys may not agree, but I still think that The Curse of Monkey Island is the high water mark for the entire genre, and will probably remain that way for along time if not forever.

I do like lucasarts a lot though, but their adventure part is gone at the moment... They no longer are an adventure game company.
edit: joe, i think monkey island 2 was better than 3, just my thought

If they make m.i. 5 (which will be a miracle), I got a hunch they will have time-travel in it, so don't be expecting much of them in t3h future.

Status : Online | Hi, I'm new here,
I just want to say, that I enjoy all the great adventure games these two companies have given us, and I don't prefer one over the other. I just like to play good adventure games, and that's what they have both made. They are different, but equally good in my opinion.

Have a look at Mobygames and see how many recent games published by LucasArts were also developed by LucasArts.

Status : Online | I never liked Sierra, all I ever played was some of the Space Quest games. Lucas on the other hand will allways be number 1. I can't really explain why, that's just the way it is. Maybe it's because I started playing MM and Zak on the C64 before I got a PC to even play Sierra. But by then I compared everything to Lucas standards, and I have allways thought the Sierra's were worse, or maybe I just couldn't get used to them...

So. Some people consider that Sierra is not up to the standards of LucasArts.
Hum.......
Standards of quality?
Standards of quantity?
Just a few passing thoughts to remember.
It was Sierra who first developed the graphics for a wholesale market. Through the creation of Mystery House, and the first King's Quest for the PC Junior. No one had done this before them geared towards the mass market. All the others that came after had to learn from Sierra's mistakes. Its easy to do that if you are not the first who is leading the way.
And Sierra did stretch itself pretty far. Because most seem to forget that Sierra did not only make games.
Does anyone remember................
Homeword 1, 2. and Plus. These were word processors made by Sierra. LucasArts never did. Does anyone remember also.... Lisa 2.5 Screenwriter Smart Money: to handle your finances The Artist: Graphic Software The General Manager The Dictionary............ All by Sierra
Does anyone else remember Sierra's arcade games.......... Aquatron Creepy Corridors Cubeit Frogger...Anyone remember this one. Gobbler Hi-Res Football Hi-Res Soccer Jawbreaker Lunar Leaper Marauder Missle Defense Mr. Cool Nova 9 Oil's Well Pest Patrol Sabotage Sammy Lightfoot Sierra Championship Boxing Silpheed Stunt Flyer Threshold Thexder To name a few................
How about................ Mixed Up Mother Goose Mixed Up Fairy Tales. Which had its own coloring book and coloring pencils included. LucasArts? The Johnny Castaway screensaver, which to this day, no other company has produced anything like it! Willy Beamish. This one was fun. Aces of the Pacific Betrayal at Krondor-CD-Rom version was excellent. Stellar 7 Heart of China Red Baron, and Red Baron Mission Builder. One of the best WWI flying games ever made. Ahead of its time. Rise of the Dragon Alien Legacy The Incredible Machine The Hoyle game series Jones in the Fastlane Golf Challenge 3D Helicopter Flight Simulator Donald Duck's Playground Dragon's Keep Troll's Tale Championship Boxing Oil's Well Sorcerian Outpost Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist Codename Iceman Castle of Dr Brain Shivers 1 and 2 Lost Mind of Dr. Brain Pepper's Adventures in Time The Black Cauldron
If I remember correctly, Sierra had a hand in an Ultima game or two
Of course who can forget the Gabriel Knight Series or the Kings Quest Series Time Zone...The largest game during its time. Has anyone ever finished it. Except Roberta Williams. Ever heard of Quest for Glory! Laura Bow 2 The Colonel's Bequest. The Search for Cetus Ecoquest 2 - The Lost Secret of the Rainforest Manhunter San Francisco and Manhunter New York Conquest of Camelot Mission Asteroid Phantasmagoria 1 and 2 And off course the Urban Runner fiasco.
The Legend of Robin Hood: Conquest of the Long Bow.. Still around and a very good one too! How about Police Quest..The original ones And off course. Who can forget Larry Laffer of the Leisure Suit series. How about the Space Quest series.. Anyone heard of it.
Sierra built an empire of many different games and software tittles. They did a great deal. Yes. They tried for quantity. But they were the first in many things.
Yes. Sierra also did produce many crappy ones. And they built many great ones also. More then LucasArts. And unlike LucasArts. They did a great deal earlier than anyone. So no one to copy from or learn how to avoid mistakes from.
Sierra tried to be a game company for all ages.
One other thing about the "old" Sierra. Unlike LucasArts. To put it bold, rude, and truthfully. They had the balls to finish everything they started. LucasArts has had too many instances of starting and stopping projects while still in the crib.
And in my book, that shows a company with resolve and quality to finish what it starts.

And Monkey Island... Who doesn't love that game!
Currently, I'm replaying SP4 and Maniac Mansion. So it sort of tells you I think having a preference is absolute rubbish
Pity I cannot find any worthwhile adventure games these days...
