I've finally got a brand spanking new PC, but since I've had it. none of my '95 games won't run properly.

They load up, play for about 10 mins and then the cut scenes seem to be on fast forward. Then everything freezes. The banner that comes up says it has had an error with the sound card. Specifially this has happened with The Curse of Monky Island. I've tried running it through the compatability mode for 95 but it still comes back with the same message. My sound card is fine and active with no problems of its own.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening and how i can resolve it?

All comments or suggestions very much appreciated!

Try using VDMS Sound http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/
and you may be happier all around using an emulator for DOS games like Dos Box  http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1
with D-Fend, which is a front end faciliator for Dox Box that makes loading and running your old games much easeir.  http://members.home.nl/mabus/dfend.htm

I use all three for researching older games as well as a battery of older systems when these dont work.  Enjoy.

VDMS is no good for Curse of Monkey Island. The out-of-sync video does point to sound card issues because video is usually synchronized with audio.

The only thing I can think of that may be worth trying is tweaking the audio acceleration settings and seeing if that helps (control panel location depends on version of Windows, though I believe DXDiag allows the control too). It is possible that CMI has issues with fast computers, and it's possible that the sound card drivers are buggy (faulty hardware is not very likely).
I forgot my sig.

There is a CSMI launcher update (that may address this issues as well) - I just can't locate it.

Have you tried ScummVM?

Edit -

Found the launcher (and it does address DirectSound Issues) - you can find it at the URL below:
