The slow as hell one in Broken Sword 4.

Made it annoying to move around.

I really hate the huge ones that have no obvious 'trigger' (i.e. the spot that actually interacts with anything you click on), making it enormously difficult to interact with small hotspots. Honestly, a simple arrow is fine - I for one prefer cursors to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Anything that leaves the player wondering exactly where he/she is pointing at (the hooked pipe in
Mystery of the Mummy for example).  I don't particularly like crosshairs because it completely
covers up the object I'm clicking on.   Lighthouse, I think is an example of a cursor being too
large, although the game was fantastic otherwise.

I guess I prefer something unobtrusive, as Ksandra said, something to point with precision, and something
that doesn't hog the screen.  And I like a cursor that slants a little to the left (which most cursors do)
because I'm right handed.  I've always been curious though what left handers think about that.  :-?

The one in Myst 4. Sure it was cool, at first, to be able to knock on things with it. Then came the chair puzzle where I had to move quickly and it was waving around all over the place in a drunken stupor when what I wanted was quick and precise movement.

And I don't like it where the cursors for different actions look too much alike. Timescape/Pompeii was like that.

And the cursor in Paradise -- Gyaah! The patch may have fixed some of the problems, but I'll never know because I doubt I'll ever play it again. Is anything worse than a cursor that decides to become nonfunctional whenever the mood strikes it, or sends you running in the opposite direction.

Something that's not too bulky and a cursor that has a significant change when you interact with something so you can tell.

As an aside, Stepurhan over at AG (who is our resident poet) has this little gem in his signature:

Pointer of Contention

This thing is way too clumsy I can’t see just where I’m clicking
When I think I’m aimed at something, the thing next to it I’m picking
I wanted to select the Dean, instead I end up with the Bursar
No wonder that the stupid thing goes by the name of curser.

What I resist, persists and speaks louder than I know.

I hate disembodied hands, like Thing from The Addams Family.

I much prefer small arrows, don't mind magnifying glass to look at something, little fist to pick up. finger to manipulate.  Got to be small though.

GK3 - It was just so ugly...

And any game with the old 360 navingation
like versailles 1685) where you move your mouse to where you want to go - it would send the screen spinning half the time!

The Bone games - the mouse moves so slowly in them... and it doesn't help that you need to use it quickly in some places!

Paradise!   That stupid animated cursor where the arrow/megaphone/magnifying glass comes out of the little ball.  But, it either moved too fast or too slow so you ended up missing half the hotspots.  Or the wrong one would pop up.   Or how about when the arrow pointed left........you clicked.......and you went to the right instead.    Ugghhh!

Good question! Although I'm a left hander, having always used a right handed mouse set up since I first used a computer, I've gotten so used to it I never think about it as being awkward.

Anyway, as for my cursor pet peeves, you folks have pretty much covered them. I hate cursors that aren't distinct, where you can't tell whether you're turning or zooming in, or whatever. And gimmicky cursors can be fun for awhile, but when it comes down to it the simplest design is the best.

I think cursors (shapes and sizes) aren't important things in adventure genre.
Despite there are nice cursors as 7th guest, Black Dahlia and others....I think is absolutelly enough simple and small ones, as Riven.

Cursors must be small and simple. Yes, I hate vary large cursors...they difficult the visualisation of the screen, objects, etc.

Simple is the best.

I like this one, it's easy to see, although pixel hunting can be tough
