Status : Offline | Let's see.......... There is a pastry cutter used for incorporating lard/butter. At the bottom left would that be a drill for lemons? Bottom right, a tool for carving melons? The one with the blades is a slicer of some sort, but it's too tiny for eggs. And I'm sure the metal thing across the center is a liver biopsy punch, though what it's doing in your kitchen, I have no idea 8-).

Anytime a relative invites my mom and I to a "Pampered Chef" party, my mom throws away the invitation. No fancy gadgets for us!

I think the metal pole is for sticking into a cake to see if the middle's cooked properly.

The white one, with the small square on top is a laser icecube slicer. Quite popular with the trendy people I heard.
To me these aren't real gadgets either. Real ones are electronic Got to love thinkgeek.com:

Status : Offline | So far the pastry cutter is correctly identified. My mother gave it to me thinking it would be quicker than the manual rubbing in method that I favour. I used it once, decided I hated having to wash it more than I hated washing my hands so it languishes.
I have taken photos demonstrating some of these..... Keep thinking.

I have a bean frencher too - the square thing with the blades in it. Makes wonderful sliced beans.
The white tool on the bottom right looks like it would be used for separating the grapefruit sections from a half grapefruit, or else for cutting tomatoes into decorative designs.
The others have me stumped

The blue tool is for removing the pits out of avicados (or peaches I guess)
The white tool on the bottom right is for removing sections of grapefruit after you cut it in half.
The thing-a-jig on the lower left is for cutting spirals. You screw the one end into the item so that it grips it, then continue turning and the white cutting portion will spiral down through the object making it like a spring that you can expand and contract.
Ummmm, am I close with any of these? [smiley=whistle.gif]

White screw thing is indeed for making zucchinis and cuccumbers into spirals. Don't ask why. It's decoration. Use a fresh firm vegetable of course.

And the white thing with the tiny blades is a vegetable julienne slicer. We don't eat beans in our house so I used it for carrots. However, it is small and the carrots need to be thin and they keep getting stuck so I don't use it because it's hard to get the ends of carrots out of it and so I threw it in the bin after taking this photo. Quicker by far to simply use a sharp knife.

And the long metal spikey thing is for cutting spirals out of foods like potatoes and big fat carrots. Again, purely for decoration. What a waste of good food.

And Ivinia is perfectly correct. The curved plastic knife with the serrated edge is a grapefruit segmenter.
The so called pastry cutter is for mixing the fat into the flour to make pastry. I prefer to cut the fat into small cubes and rub in with fingertips. Actually quicker and more soothing. A potato masher is shown below for Ivinia's benefit (the two rear implements with the tall handles) along with a tomoato/egg slicer that acts like a little guillotine and kids love to play like a harp. The white multi-bladed apparatus is for slicing herbs and the black handled gizmo bottom right is for avocados. It scoops and slices the flesh from the skin in one operation. Best way to remove avocado stone Ivinia is to put a knife into it and twist slightly.

That just leaves the big white thing. I've wracked my brain with this and I can't remember what it is, I was hoping someone would tell me.....

Looks to me like a tea strainer that lost its wire mesh.
Based on the egg spoon (what a ridiculous invention btw) I'm thinking that perhaps it's also for picking up something out of a fluid. But I can't lose the thought that it seems to be missing parts. Anyway, I'm sure it could be used to blow soap bubbles through.
Heh, if I was at my parents' place I'd dig out a few of their beekeeping tools and confuse you guys silly.

I used to work in a hospital kitchen. Veg prep actually. I had to prep the fruits and veggies for the salad bars, cooks ingredients, and parties.
That julienne slicer thing is a new one on me. I doesn't seem very practical since you have to cut down the carrot to size just to make it fit through there! For that I had an industrial machine.
(Psst, and when I was in the military working with parachutes, I also had to repair then so...I was trained in sewing by hand, regular sewing machine and all the way up to the big industrial ones. )

Virginia No. Never done any preserving. Got no fruit trees. I was interested in doing pickled onions once but the moment passed. I don't think I have any more cupboard space anyway.
Edit. Darn it, Virginia.... why do you always delete your posts when someone's replied to them?
