So Anyone played it yet?

You can only play it at the moment if you subscribe to Gametap (and live in the US), but you never know.

It's probably persona non grata with some people as :

1. It's Episodic

2. It's a Download

But http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=68766 -- It's getting good reviews.

I for one an looking forward to 1st November when I can get it from the Telltale Website.

To get the game you can

* Download individual Sam & Max episodes for $8.95 each from Telltale.
* Buy the entire season for $34.95 from Telltale.   -------> Best option

* Subscribe to GameTap for $9.95/month to get exclusive early access to Sam & Max episodes, along with over 600 other games.

People who purchase the whole season for $34.95 will get access to each episode as soon as it becomes available on Telltale's website. At the end of the season, these customers can choose to receive a Season 1 CD containing all six episodes for only the cost of shipping and handling.

The following quote from one review concerns me a bit.

"
on't telegraph the puzzle solutions so much. One of my happiest moments playing this game was right at the very end, when I realized: I don't know what to do! This wasn't frustrating, mind you. This was awesome. I'd blazed through all the other puzzles without having to work my brain very hard, and I was ready for a challenge. If I get stuck two or three times as often in the next episode, I'll be two or three times as happy a player"

The trend is for dumbed down puzzles.

I didn't care much for either of the demos for the Bone games, so though I didn't play the full games, Telltale hasn't been able to convince me of their talent. Granted, Sam and Max is a whole different series, but still. As far as I know, there won't be a demo available for Sam and Max (the episode itself is probably too small). And that makes it simple for me: no demo, no try, no buy.

I was so very tempted to subscribe to Gametap, use the two week free trial to play Sam & Max, then cancel my subscription.
But I guess I'll just wait until November to get it. News flash: I'm going to actually BUY an episodic game! Will the fabric of time and space withstand this cataclysmic event? Stay tuned....  [smiley=shocked.gif]

I'll wait til it's on TT's website. Gametap seems like a nice service, but I don't care for a service that once you stop subscribing, you lose access to all games.

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.

Sam & Max is much, much, much better than the Bone games.  Puzzles are on the easy side but it's very very funny and clever.

I like humor in my games, but EASY puzzles... PASS! (so sick of dumbed down everything)

There will be a demo.

It will be through Telltale's site as well as Gametap I believe.

now that's what i call good news!!! the full season 1, properly boxed is smth i may consider... i guess it will be available at the end of the season, and you won't have to buy now... i don't have that big a problem with episodic gaming, but i prefer playing the whole thing in one go and not wait in between episodes...

I'm going to do with Sam and Max what I'm currently doing with the Bone games. Which is to wait until all episodes are out and available on CD/DVD.

Well, you can't say it's dumbed down since Sam & Max Hit the Road had easy puzzles too.  And actually this game shows a little more imagination in the puzzles.  I think the whole six episode set when it comes out will probably wind up playing better than S&MHtR.

I agree! We'll have to wait for 'n' months and hope that episodic sales are enough to enable them to complete the season but a full/proper game is what floats my boat.

I have confidence they will complete the series.  But I'm wondering if the 34.95 price will still
hold for those that don't purchase the full season beforehand.  That's a darn good price.

This is from the Telltale forums:

Emily said:
I don't know how long the preorder deal will last, but it will be at least through the release of episode 1.

I would say keep an eye on the website and to be on the safe side, order before Dec. 17 (when the next one comes out).

I'm pretty sure that it won't stay the same., otherwise there wouldn't be much attraction to pay for all episodes now already. Also, I'm not sure whether all six episodes put together will form one game. Do they all have separate story lines or one continuous one?

Seperate stories with an overarching plot.

After much thinking, I've decided that I'll play it once (read as - if) all the episodes are released.

I'm going for the pre-order option. I hope more people are going to, because it will ensure the future of the Sam and Max series. And maybe the future of Tell Tale Games as well. And perhaps even the future of adventure gaming.
