OK, being as you're an amiga fan.. what was the FIRST linked computer game you played.. The first game I ever tried by linking up an A1000 with an A500 (they had slightly different serial ports for some reason too, so had to make my own null modem/serial cable).. was RVF Honda on the Amiga. The next one I think I tried was Stunt Car Racer and then Populous. Even got some linkup games going with F1GP from memory.
I remember soldering together a 4 way joystick adaptor too for use with Gauntlet (or was it Garrison) for those 4 player sessions... For some reason we always made use of some soldering iron that had a nib the size of a golf ball, so none of it looked pretty, but it worked like a charm.

i've never played any games with amigas linked together... i did have my a1200 and a500 linked, but that was mainly for file exchange (esp when i only had a cdrom on the a500, and dozens of public domain games and demos on cds that i wanted to run on the a1200)

Status : Offline | ok, i am confused now... i was pretty sure i used to play krakout on the amiga... i even remember the bat looking like a coin from the side! i searched all my amiga archives though and the caps archives too and found nothing... on the other hand i found a spectrum version, which i could have been playing in the past (didn't have a c64)... so is there an amiga version of krakout? and if not, what's the game i am remembering with the bat that looks like that?

I gotta tell you man, this is not a forgotten genre. To get you started, go find Breakquest, Ricochet: Lost Worlds, and Bricks of Egypt, which are perhaps the most successful breakout/Arkanoid clones released in the last few years. Then go check out GameTunnel indie round-ups, and note that there is usually at least one hit-the-ball-with-a-paddle game released each month. Some of us are rolling are eyes over the apparent glut in this genre.
And none of this is said to start an argument. My point is, Aya, you are frigging lucky, because there are some very good games out there that you haven't played yet!

So far each 'forgotten' genre mentioned is still alive and well thanks to some indie developers and the downloadable game business model.

Status : Offline | erik, i dloaded and played the 3 games you mentioned... my fav was ricochet, which i think will be the one i'm keeping... i liked bricks of egypt too though... breakquest didn't appeal to me that much... got to give it credit for trying smth different, but i guess i'm more of a classic kind of guy!
ivinia, what you're saying is true, but an entirely different case than adventure games, for 2 major reasons: 1. collections - we, and i'm sure lots of other adventurers, collect our adventure game boxes... we don't just buy them to play (which we do of course!)... we like stacking them on shelves, going thru them, etc
2. games like breakout-clones don't really have much to offer, other than the games themselves... an adventure game can offer a lot of great material in a big box... manuals, stories, goodies you name it... the most an breakout-clone can offer would be a minimal story, like arkanoid... of course there were those amazing psygnosis days when games like shadow of the beast came in fantastic boxes with t-shirts and stuff, but we can get over that!
bottom line: having breakout-clones, platform games, shoot em ups boxed is great, but it's equally fine dloaded... adventures though are a whole different deal! 8-)
