Does anybody else here like these kinds of music? Have you ever been in any famous nightclubs? The best night clubs I've been to were in England. I consider the best club, Cream in Liverpool. When I went there it was 5,000 people and they played really really great trance music.

The second quite famous night club I've been to, was Ministry of Sound in London, but to tell you the truth I was expecting more and I didn't like it that much in there. I actually sleeped in there (much cheeper than renting a hotel in London, and when you are 19 you don't have a lot of money
)

Hmm... I've been to other big night clubs in England but those two were the most famous. I was also working in night clubs in Kos island, Greece this summer but there they played more pop music  :-/  ....

Pop music suuuccckksssss.....

About pop music. I used to actually enjoy it some time ago. But I grew tired of it. Especially this summer. I was working on this island Kos as I said which is one of the most party-famous islands of Greece. I was working as a 'beach-guy' in a beach bar from 10 till 17 and as a PR for a nightclub from 22 till 2:30.

So I was working for 11 and a half hours, and during these hours you listen eminem's song 30 times, Shakira's whenever, wherever 40 times, It's getting hot in herre by Nelly 50 times (it was actually really hot in Greece, but that's another subject), Jennifer Lopez songs 35 times per day....then yes, you get sick and tired of it.

Not only that but I saw it kind from a 3rd person perspective how people are being 'fed' what to like. And apart from that, you get to understand that they are being fed crap. I'm actually thoroughly surprised when songs say so meaningless and egoistic things (like Say my name, I will rock you, nobody stopping me now, boys-sometimes a girl just wants one ??? ) and when I have asked people what they think of the lyrics they say that they just don't listen to the lyrics  :-/ I don't want even to talk about the masters of sleeze like Enrique Iglesias.

So I have grown myself into liking quality music more. People that do and play music for the music, and not for going up on a podium one day and say 'I want to thank my mum, my dad, Sony, all the producers, God and my aunt Mary Jane for making me these delicious cookies'.

I prefer music like Bjork (her voice is absolutely amazing), Faithless, House, Trance, Rock (Creed are doing some EXCELLENT work lately), Heavy Metal, Celtic music (like Loreena Mckennit), soundtracks...and generally everything but Pop. Oh if you consider Dido as pop then I like Dido, because she has an amazing voice.

Deleted UserMan, dimi, you couldn't put it better! I totally agree with you on this topic!

As I've previously mentioned, people who just perform "hit" songs that has been produced by other people aren't worth wasting your time on. As you probably know this is a big industry here in Sweden. Lots of songs by Britney Spears, N'Sync, etc. etc. are composed by the same small group of Swedish producers.

And listening to the top hits all the time really messes up your head! I remember waking up at six in the morning almost every single day in military service to radio stations like NRJ. You could set a clock off the song they played, as they just used the same playlists over and over again... And the most amazing part is that if you tune in to one of these stations at one point and then wait for half a year and tune it in again, most of the songs are STILL the same. Their record archive must contain nothing but latest Absolute Music CD! I almost went crazy at this at times, but the others in my plutoon had been tube-fed this for too long and didn't want to listen to anything else. I'm sooo grateful we still got public service radio here!

People are so blind not realizing that media is screwing with their minds! Take Jennifer Lopez for example. She became huge and a lot of spin-offs from here career emerged. She got her own line of clothes for example. But then her marketing people realized that her image had become too exclusive, as her original fans really couldn't afford the J-Lo merchandise and they were losing potential customers. So now it's all "I'm still, I'm still Jenny From The Block" etc. and it goes straight up to the top of the hit charts.

What becomes popular is really not an issue with me. If I like the music isn't a big issue either. The key thing is that the musician does his/her thing, and stays true to it. Some pop artists does this successfully, despite the huge industry surrounding them. Madonna is one example. Dolly Parton is another, but she doesn't exactly write pop music. Oh well, whatever... The industry doesn't have a clue though. For instance, they're nominating Madonna's Die Another Day title track as best movie song for several awards these days, despite the common opinion among Bond fans being that it's the worst Bond theme song in the entire 40 years of the series. Is it about the music? No! It's about the right people getting seen at the right parties and so on.

You know, Enrique Iglesias is probably the only person in the world I'd want to punch without a good reason - I hate the guy, I hate his empty-commercial-souless-repetitive-horrible-Pop-music. He's the epitome of the crappy Latinamerican music. Did I say that I hate the guy?

I like Dido also, she's much more better than most current Pop artists.

Yes, I agree with both Dimi's and Petter's posts though I don't like Trance and House music (but they're decidely more "underground"
. Progressive and Alternative Rock is my stuff.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Deleted UserDoes pop mean boy-bands, J-Lo, Daniel Bedingfield and other such banal trash?

I sometimes like dance - DJ Sammy, Robert Miles, Scooter - but most music genres have stuff I like.

I went to see The red Hot Chillis - some years ago and they were supported by Henry Rollins.

Rollins was electric on stage - and I bought one of his albums.
Although it was the same tracks I'd heard on stage - they were AWFUL listening in my flat.

I suppose dance is like that. Great at a club - but not the same out of context.

Hmm... I didnt know that. Im also not of fans of Britney and NSYNC. Maybe I would like them if I was a teenager. Maybe. But never a fan.

About J-Lo products, I agree with you Petter_Holmberg. Those clothes are expensive. Its like she's selling them to celebrities!! How could a teenager buy those stuff.
Oops, Im also not a J-Lo fan. I do sometimes enjoy her acting. For me , its just fun reading thier articles from celebrity mags . Thats all.

The best example is the best Progressive Rock band -

Yes, I should - it's been a long time since I don't go to night clubs, years actually! La Diosa or any place in Puerto Madero (do you know that place?) plays a little Trance and House music every night. I have a friend that knows a lot about them - let me check it with him and I'll tell you tomorrow.

They don't suck!
I don't know Porcupine Tree. Might try it.

King Crimson is the band with that singer who sounds like a castrate...right?
I couldn't listen to him all the time, although I am aware that he is able to sing much more diversified than just piercing high.
I know "Melissa" by Merciful Fate, I think that was his latest band.

Try Porcupine Tree. They're really one of the best bands of these last years.

Um, yes... I think you mean Adrian Belew. He's from the third Crimson-era. He worked with Zappa and Bowie. I consider he's a good musician but the best Crimson-era was when John Wetton was at the front. Crimson is one of the bands with most different line-ups ever.
