I don't think this exact topic has already been posted; if so, I'm sorry, but if not, vote!!

I like the earlier games, for several reasons; first, there was a mystery to solve, a problem that has someone at the root of it. Also in the earlier games, it was slightly more of a surprise once you found out who the culprit was. Just about every suspect in the earlier games might be responsible, and you really didn't know until the end. In the later games, it's all kind of muddy; no one seems to have a motive to do...what?? The later games are more of a "treasure hunt" rather then solving a mystery that has a culprit responsible. Case in point: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon. Yes, you're trying to find his mine, but what crime has been committed for a culprit to be responsible for?? A good example of an earlier game is The Final Scene. Someone kidnapped your friend, you have to find out who, and just about everyone there has a reason for which they might have kidnapped her. The later games are pretty much just treasure hunts, which is interesting, but aren't really true "mysteries." Granted, I did like Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, but my FAVORITE Nancy Drew game would have to be The Final Scene. Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake is another favorite, but I prefer the fact that The Final Scene is a mystery.

Deleted UserI voted for Danger on Deception Island, not because I live in the area, but thought it was fairly well put together and fun to hunt for clues in.

Last year, I tried ND #1 and it's the first ND that I disliked enough to not finish.

Still haven't played any of the Nancy D games, they're not available in stores here. Might import one of them one of these days; but for now I'm set with an already huge unplayed/unfinished pile of adventure games.

Btw: I think it would be a good idea to include an option 'haven't played any yet' in the poll, just to get a complete look on things.

The problem with this poll is I can't pick just one, so I can't vote yet.

That one's in a class by itself.  You either like it or you don't.

Only played the first one, didn't like it very much. In particular I was annoyed by all those little clues dropped in by the designers that had no plausible reason to be in the game world. But I understand the games do improve as the series moves on, so I'll likely give the second game a try sometime.

Well....I didn't voted because I've been played one two ND games.

The Haunted Caroussel > extremelly short, weak adventure.

Secret Of The Scarlet Hand > good game

Yes, Secret of the Scarlet Hand was a very good Nancy Drew game. Probably the most difficult, too, in terms of taking notes, study, and thinking "smart".

Scarlet Hand was no entertainment slouch, though. I mean to say, it wasn't all about "edutainment". Although the player is required to use the knowledge learned, Scarlet Hand was a good-looking and entertaining game. I would even venture to say that Scarlet Hand is probably the most professionally-built Nancy Drew game yet.

But I voted for Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake - 'cause I liked the birds, animals, and that weirdo conservationist guy.

Hmmm. On second thought, maybe I should have used my vote for Secret of the Scarlet Hand instead.

Please proofread your posts carefully to see if you any words out.

Silly Andromus.   :-*

Actually, the 2nd game has a few of those clues as well, but some of the elements of later games are thrown in, too (and no CD swapping!).

Why limit yourself to games #1 and 2, when there are a dozen others to choose from?  Unless you have a compulsive need to play them in order, you don't have to judge the entire series based on the first game that has a love/hate relationship among all players.

A cool advice, Andromus. In issues about ND, don't mess up with Susan.

Heh, that's about it -- I usually play games that are part of a series in the order they were released, almost compulsively.
That's not nearly as important with the Nancy Drew games as they all seem to be stand alone games, but I still like seeing how games develop and change as a series progresses.

I chose "Secrets of the Old CLock" although I really liked a couple of the others just as much, I liked driving around town trying to make some money.

The ND games have been getting more 'chore' oriented too, that kind of bugs me.  I want to solve a mystery, not do chores!

Was that the one where you had to sew the dress?  [smiley=hair_pull.gif] Arrrggghhh!!

Also,  I thought the villan's voice was annoying....

I chose Curse of Blackmoor Manor - some parts of the game made me jump (I like that little bit of adrenaline rush).  I also enjoyed the puzzles...Although, Last Train to Blue Moon  Canyon was really good, too!

The Curse of Blackmoor Manor was IMPOSSIBLE!!!  [smiley=hair_pull.gif] The puzzles were VERY difficult to figure out, and the annoying moving-room thing REALLY got old after a while. Especially after I had to do it fifteen-hundred times to get from the house to the lab to the house to the lab again...anyway, I'm surprised that one has the most votes!!
It was hard for me, at least.

As for Andromus' statement on the fact that the ND games are stand-alone...yeah, pretty much, but sometimes a game will have a little clue in it that refers to the last one before it. And then there's the whole "photo-album/journal" thing at the beginning of Danger by Design, which doesn't help to explain how one of Nancy's mysteries happened to take place in the 1930's...time travel, maybe??!

The Curse of Blackmoor Manor, because it was my very first ND game.

Neither my sister or I have ever been able to beat Secrets Can Kill, but we haven't really tried that hard because it's a boring, weird game. But supposedly Nancy actually points a gun at someone at the end!!!
Now THAT I need to see. Cooler then the "STREET FIGHTER - NANCY DREW" thing at the end of Danger by Design.

Well, OK then.  Acceptable answer, as they do change with each release and switching from game #13 to game #3 isn't always easy to do because of this.  And acceptable ... assuming you plan to play more ND games in the future.

Well, I kinda sorta have Stay Tuned For Danger waiting on the "to be played" stack, so yeah, I will be.

While you're playing #2, I'll just add #3-14 on that stack.

Feel free to drop in on any game. They're not linear, so you can play one from 2004, then one from 2002 without any problems. The UI imporves a bit as it goes on, but is otherwise quite consistent.

Well, I havn't voted yet. I liked then all and I am having a hard time choosing the favorite one.  I liked them all except the first one.  Every time I play one I think of all the games I have played that are not even half as good. Of course there are many other great games too but I think these are still near the top. If a person likes one of these games I think he/she will like them all so it makes it hard to choose a favorite.

I agree and that's the only one I had to play using a walkthrough.
It was still good but I definatly would not say it's my favorite.

No, I would NOT say that Blackmoor Manor is one of my favs. I hate it so much I'm probably never going to play it again... >

Although my sister says that the game's only redeeming characteristic is Nigel, because she thought he was cute. Of course that wasn't a plus for me, so in my case the game has NO redeeming characteristics. LOL
