Terry, I couldn't have said it better myself. I think you are absolutely right. Fortunately there are exceptions. For example Oblivion was developed for the PC an the Xbox 360 simultaniously and out of the box it shows. But because it is so easy to make mods for that game you can modify nearly all the things that are a bit crap like for instance some of those low-res textures and those horrible large interfaces that take up like one third of the screen. It is not impossible to compromise but it is a very hard thing to do. I had very high expectations of Invisible War an Deadly Shadows but technically they were both failures. Man, Ion Storm spend 4 years on developing 2 games that were not even a shadow of the original games. They didn't sell well and both franchises are as good as gone. Same thing happened to Gabriel Knight 3. One of my favourite games but a lot of money was spend on a new engine, it didn't sell enough and now the franchise is dead and burried. Such a shame.

Yep, it's a real shame that even Warren Spector caved into pressure from Eidos Interactive to compromise between the PC and console versions of those wonderfully promising game franchises. Thief 1 & 2 and Deus Ex were rare gems that showed genuine innovation, were super immersive and they were lots of fun to play. The sequels sucked by comparison and we have seen the same thing happen too often in the past few years. (Turning the original Halo for PC / Mac into an exclusive, SP-only Xbox launch title was just one more high profile example.)

Hopefully the beancounters have been paying close attention to the backlash of weak reviews, negative player feedback and generally disappointing sales numbers because they need to learn a lesson from this ill-advised experiment in economic efficiency. In the end, we players will vote with our pocketbooks and when such bad products are released, in most cases, we have voted correctly - to snub them and demand a better effort next time. Burn us once or twice, shame on you. Burn us thrice, shame on us. Fortunately most of we PC gamers aren't falling for the same trick again.

I also agree that this can be done right. But it takes extra time / effort / money and a separate marketing program for a separate audience.

Oh well, maybe Jade Empire PC will be more like what we want...

Cheers, Terry

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

it could be, but it's easy to see why it's not... the score doesn't say 6-0 (or 0-6 if i was team b)

Deleted UserI V I N I A :    These Greek dudes are at it again.  Now it's over some obscure game no one cares about......think the Atlantians, you know the tribe with the missing arms,  made this game up or something.  I think they kick the crap out of each other while trying to run away with a weird ball....and they can't use their hands (if they got them).....what a joke.  I heard Val & Roula are getting tired of their fighting too.   Like to see them slappin' those boys silly.

Later.....

In the interest of fairness and accuracy, those were exploding DIET Pepsi cans.

I very much liked the more story-oriented RPG's like Knights of the Old Republic, Final Fantasy ( VI, VII and IX ) and Anachronox. Deus Ex was also very good.
