Here's a completely non-technical puzzle (I bet no one expected that from me):

For her this rhyme is penned, whose luminous eyes,
Brightly expressive as the twins of Loeda,
Shall find her own sweet name, that, nestling lies
Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader.
Search narrowly the lines! -- they hold a treasure

ivine -- a talisman -- an amulet
That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure --
The words -- the syllables! Do not forget
The trivialest point, or you may lose your labor!
And yet there is in this no Gordian knot

Which one might not undo without a sabre,
If one could merely comprehend the plot.
Enwritten upon the leaf where now are peering
Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus
Three eloquent words oft uttered in the hearing
Of poets, by poets -- as the name is a poet's, too.
Its letters, although naturally lying
Like the knight Pinto -- Mendez Ferdinando --
Still form a synonym for Truth -- Cease trying!
You will not read the riddle, though you do the best you can do.

Questions:
1. What is the name encoded within this poem?
2. Who wrote the poem?
I forgot my sig.

Nice try, but wrong. I just typed it in. It was written in mid-19th century.

Inland, don't get me wrong, but I think you should not reveal the answer if you already know about it. That spoils the fun for everyone else. What good is it to you? That you posted the solution no matter its your own or not?
I also think you should not look up an answer in order to post it. If the question is not intended to be answered by research, you should not do it. At least don't post it then.

Well, I still don't know why the answer is correct, but I will think about it. But it's not that much fun any more as it would have been if you kept silent...  >

Shame on you, Inland!

I'm not sure I understand this argument. If people do not reveal the answer then the question can never be answered?

Well, I still don't know why the answer is correct, but I will think about it.

Consider that another question:
3. How exactly is the name hidden in the poem?

But, there's no point in asking a question if you don't want an answer...

Do you really not understand my point or do you try to tease me??

Yes, a question demands an answer and it is perfectly ok to give one, but...

...you should give some other people the time to work it out, if you happen to know the answer because you have READ or HEARD it somewhere else

...even if you figured it out yourself back then you MIGHT give others a little time to come up with a solution

...if you really can't wait to give the answer - although you haven't thought about it yourself -  then warn the others that you are about to post a solution and not just a guess or a contribution which might lead to the answer -> you could for example write in the color of the background, others who want to see the solution could then mark the "hidden" text with the mouse

These forums work with a flat mode display, that means you see a number of replies on a thread on one page. If it used an original reply/following replies system - which would actually give a sense to the re: in the header of each reply - you could label the posts "solution" or something like that. But as we can only take this one viewing mode, nobody cares about the "re:" header. I bet that noone ever looks at this line or bothers to modify it. Thus it would go unnoticed if you labeled it with a warning phrase.

This is no flaming approach, it's an idea for more fun on these boards.
I think a riddle should at least last one day before it is easily given away.

I still don't get that. If everyone does this, an answer can never come??

...even if you figured it out yourself back then you MIGHT give others a little time to come up with a solution

I don't see why. First come, first serve.

I agree that people should not post an answer ASAP if they had to look it up. But if they can answer off the top of their head, I don't see any reason to wait.

No, Belinda, I'm not upset.
I just want to clarify my position.
I can't believe that nobody understands the message I'm trying to convey.

Michal, an answer WILL come when and IF somebody figures the riddle out completely on his own, someone who didn't know about the solution of the riddle.
Regardless of your opinion on that matter...it still IS logical, isn't it?

I'm only asking for a warning to be given before solving a completely undebated riddle or problem, especially if you give away the answer after just a few hours or minutes.
What is the point in posting a riddle which will be immediately solved without any debate going on in beforehand? Is this competition??
No, it isn't, at least I don't see it as a competition. I enjoy new riddles I haven't heard of and would like to solve them on my own.

I'm not blaming Inland for ruining my personal enjoyment or telling him to stop participating in these threads or even telling him to shut up. I would never dare doing such a thing.
I'm just telling you that such riddles would be much more fun if you allow people to participate for a while.

For me, personally, it is of no value to give a correct answer just for the sake of it.
It doesn't increase my enjoyment or the one of others.

Elf.......I completely understand your message, and how you feel about this........and yes, Inland,....shame on you!  There was another trivia post here somewhere, Lord you know, we have enough......... :
, but anyways, the people that already knew it, said they'd keep quiet for awhile, and try to let others figure it out.......so, Elf, I know how you felt......
Inland......you got to learn to wait a bit longer.....hmm...I know.....you wanted to be 'first one' to get it right, right?

In this case, one of the questions was "who wrote the poem". You either know that or you don't. There is no figuring out on your own.

The correct answer came about nine hours and 30 minutes after I posted the questions. That is hardly immediate.

I understand your position but I don't sympathize with it
