Igor ArtemovSpace Cadet![]() Posts : 185 Joined: 1 APR 2003 Status : Online | HEL-lo, everyone! I'd like to introduce myself: I'm me, Afex Tween (simply Afex). I'm not a boy, nor yet a ..hm.. middle-aged person, I like playing adventure games and I stole my nick from some cool musician. Now, for questions: 1. First adventure - I can't quite remember, but it was either Legend of Kyrandia 1, Gobliiins or Hugo House (or smth like that). 2. Favourite three adventures - Monkey Island 1-2, Gabriel Knight 1 3. Best of genre - Monkey Island 2, Myst (yak!), Sam and Max Hit the Road 4. Three worst adventures - Hopkins FBI, Leather Goddeses of Phobbos 2, Myst 5. Did you like MI2 ending - I sure did! One of my most favourite endings ever! 6. Most important factors in adventures - story and puzzles. I thing they should stand 50/50 in every adventure. 7. Good soundtrack enchanced the experience - yes, it sure does. And makes the right mood. 8. Did you play text adventures - I did, and quite many. Three text adventures: IF: Zork, Curses, Sherlock Holmes (played very few of them, never finished any ); Text with pictures: Larry 3, Conquest of Camelot, Arthur:the Quest for Excalibur (and some others); Text + mouse: Time Quest, Eric the Unready, Alice in Wonderland (this is my favourite type, espessially Legend games). 9. Walkthrougs - I'm always trying not to use them more then 3 times per game. 10. How many adventures have you played - many, can't quite count all of them. I'll try in my free time, though. 11. Play games from other genres - yes, they are: Logic, 1st person shooters (mostly old ones, like Doom..yeah!) and.. Tennis (never played on computer, but always wanted to). 12. Special theme(s) in adventure - yeah, I like horror very much and also detective games. 13. Like Myst - NO 14. Grim Fandango - good adventure - YES, though not in my TOP-10. 15. Broken Sword - Very good adventure indeed. 16. Phantasmagoria - never played it, though heard only bad things about it, and as it is very easy - it's not for me. 17. Finish most adventures - yes, if the game is good. 18. 2D mostly, but sometimes 3D also make it for an adventure. 19. Linear/non-linear - depends on the game plot 20. Well, hard-core fan, as it turned out Finished. Going to sleep. Killing Time |

GamaholicPrivate Detective![]() ![]() Posts : 724 Joined: 3 NOV 2002 Status : Online | What is your age? 39 1. First adventure you played. Year? (estimated) First one I completed was the Longest Journey in 2002. First one I dabbled in was Myst in 2001. 2. What are your favorite three adventures? The Longest Journey, GK2, and Sam and Max Hit the Road. 3. Which three adventures you consider the best of the genre? (be objective) I'd have to say the 3 above (guess I have good taste) 4. Name three adventures you consider are the worst examples of the genre (no hybrids, e.g. KQ8) from my personal experience only....Mystery of the Nautilus (ugh, those hotspots in dark areas and timed bits), Loch Ness (just thinking about the camera movement makes my tummy turn over), and Myst III....(ONLY because it came out post WinXP yet is XP incompatible...and I REALLY wanted to play it! ) 5. Did you like the Monkey Island 2 ending? looking forward to playing it. 6. Which are the most important factors in an adventure game? (name all that apply) a) Story b) Puzzles c) Graphics d) Interface Story is most important...it's what keeps me playing the game. Puzzles are next...should be logical, should be fun. Then Graphics...I'm an artist...I LOVE beauty in games...but a good game can draw me in without being a work of art, although the eye candy is much appreciated. Finally, Interface should be user friendly...I do love point and click, but having played lots of RPGs I can handle keyboard controls just fine. 7. Do you think a good soundtrack enhances the experience of an adventure game? Yes I do, though a good game should be enjoyable in silence as well. 8. Did you play text-adventures? Name three of them. I've begun several...enjoyed very much...none completed yet...Wonderland, Zork I, and AMFV. 9. Do you use walkthroughs frequently? When I'm stuck for more than a day or two or am feeling very impatient, yep. (less so on good games...they feel worth my patience more..) 10. How many adventures have you played? (rough estimate) about a dozen finished, about 3 dozen in progress. 11. Do you play games from other genres? Name three of those genres. Tons of RPGs, strategy (HOMM), some action. 12. Any special theme(s) you prefer in adventures? (Sci-Fi, Horror, Thriller, etc.) Mystery, thriller, comedy, fantasy. 13. Did you like Myst? it's in progress...very pretty, though not a "stay-up-all-night-can't-stop-playing" kind of game (like TLJ and GK2 for example). 14. Do you think Grim Fandango was a good adventure game? it's in progress...terrific so far. 15. How about Broken Sword? in progress...good so far. 16. And Phantasmagoria? don't have that one yet.. 17. Do you always finish most adventures you play? one day, one day.. 18. 2D or 3D? I'd say 2D, until the 3D catches up to Morrowind in quality. 19. Linear (e.g. Broken Sword 2) or non-linear (e.g. Day Of The Tentacle)? Fairly linear, which is expected in a strong story (prefer my RPGs to be non-linear). 20. Overall, you consider yourself: a) an initiate in the genre. b) a fan. c) a hard-core fan. d) a Walking Encyclopedia. Probably c) hard-core fan. I haven't played that many yet really, being fairly new to computer games, but I collect and read about most, so I'm pretty obsessed. I must have over 100 so far...and I look forward to playing them all! That which makes one happy is not a waste of time |

I literally sat there open mouthed from the first scene, then spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to open the door to the castle..LOL 2. What are your favorite three adventures? Zork Nemesis (by a long way, my all time favourite!) Riven (Beautiful, surreal) and Spy Craft 3. Which three adventures you consider the best of the genre? (name all that apply) a) Story (It has to get me in during the first 10 minutes or my eyes glaze over) b) Graphics (As above) c) Puzzles (Should be relevant and not require membership in Mensa to solve damnit!!!!) d) Interface 7. Do you think a good soundtrack enhances the experience of an adventure game? Absolutely. As with a good movie the sound and music should be relvant and set the mood.. 8. Did you play text-adventures? No. Those were long before I became addicted and bought my first PC. 9. Do you use walkthroughs frequently? Only when I am thoroughly beaten, to save on frustration and tears. 10. How many adventures have you played? Probably 12 or so … 11. Do you play games from other genres? No. Having tried quite a few and found no enjoyment even close to a good first person adventure, I wouldn’t even bother anymore … 12. Any special theme(s) you prefer in adventures? Do you think Grim Fandango was a good adventure game? Have not played it.. 15. How about Broken Sword? Ditto.. 16. And Phantasmagoria? Likewise.. 17. Do you always finish most adventures you play? Yes, or my life feels empty and unfulfilled..lol 18. 2D or 3D? 2D is fine.. 19. Linear (e.g. Broken Sword 2) or non-linear (e.g. Day Of The Tentacle)? My preference is for Linear. 20. Overall, you consider yourself: a) an initiate in the genre. b) a fan. c) a hard-core fan. d) a Walking Encyclopedia. (b) a fan who has spent many MANY wasted hours scouring the games stores to no avail. I’d be (c) if I could FIND the damned games! |
