All 3 of the Gabriel Knights, the Monkey Island games, Day of the Tentacle, LSL 7, The Longest Journey, both Phantasmagorias, King's Quest 7--pretty much any game I love I go back to and play it over and over again.  I really like games for the story, so knowing how to solve all the puzzles is kind of a bonus for me--I can play it through smoothly and just watch it unfold.  Also, I like to try and get perfect scores on the games that have points.

I tend to play the myst series once a year or so....I just like going back to that world..
Amber - 3 times
Blackstone Chronicles - 3 times
Reah - 2 times
CSI - 2 times....once to get through and once to get the "bonus" case
JourneyMan Project 3 -2 times
Schizm - 2
Jack the Ripper 2 times...I was one of the few who enjoyed that one I think....
Lighthouse 3+ times...lost track of that one...LOVE IT!!
Amerzone- 3 times....cool story...
Darkfall  - 2 times
Lights Out (DFII) - 2 times
Beyond Atlantis - 3 times....like the aztec or mayan stuff in that one.
Titanic (adveture out of time) 2 times
Riddle of the Sphinx- 2 times
Dracula Series- Resurection ect....2 times
Blackmirror - 1.5 times....stupid copyprotection kept messing up the second time
7th guest - 2
11th hour - 2...hated it both times....
Law and Order Dead on the Money...many times to get it right....
Syberia I and II - 2 times
Longest Journey- 2 times Got kinda tired of all that dialog the second time through
Oh yeah....The mummy and Frankenstiens through the eyes of the monster....they came packaged together....
played mummy twice....and frank...only once....mazes from hell.

Usually I play through once just to finish it....then I go back and try to find more detail....things
I may have missed the first time through. Most games I am happy to say, have stuff that you probably missed the first time around....so it makes it fun to go back....Sometimes the world is just too interesting or the story too good to NOT go back and revisit....and YES I re-read books all the time.....and I have a large DVD and VHS collection as well and they all get viewed multiple times....he he....

It's one of the perks of taking early retirement, SW.
Besides, the replays don't take nearly as long as the initial time through the game.  Like some of the others here, I like to go through the game in a different sequence (if possible) the second time to see if I missed anything.

SEE!!! Thats what I was saying.....different sequence and check out the little details you might have missed....
I swear if I read one more bad adventure review where thier only gripe is a low re-playability I will scream!!! Every game should be played more than once....there is always something you missed.

There are some games that I feel satisfied once I've played them once, so I pass them on to others, but I have a few favs that I play over again. My all-time favourite is a real oldey- Pharaoh (can't wait 'til Sierra comes out with a new version again!). I'm also working my way through Fable- having technical difficulties, but the graphics are too cool. Am also really enjoying Dreamfall, so will probably play that one again too. And, have played Civ IV too many times to count.

BTW: Just found this site last night and have to say that it's fantastic!

[size=14]I've never played an Adventure Game twice, ever.  Why? Because I know the end of the story! Simple.  Adventure games to me are like a book or movie. Games are a distraction from real life! You get involved in a game and the story, you "live" that environment and become so involved that you want to see how it pans out.  Once you have the answer .... why go through it again?[smiley=wink.gif]

I treat Adventure Games as an experience and I am sure this is what the developers aim at  ... an experience in a fantasy ...  [smiley=tongue.gif]

Yes, because when you have been playing games for 23 years you sometimes forget that you have played it before. Although now I do have a database.
Sometimes I do it by accident when a stupid developer changes the name of a game & re-releases it and you think this feels just like such an such. Hey it has even got the same characters & the same backgrounds.  :

Sometimes you just want to play Death Gate, Xanth & the various Gabriel Knights again.
And most irritatingly you are the babysitter & you push the kids in front of a PC but every 10 minutes they require your help because they are 5 years old and you have given them Rama to play.

NB. I say 23 years but I am not old, I'm only in my 30's.

The formitable Mr. Len Green and I were beta testers for Gilbert Goodmate. We were promised to receive a complimentary, signed finished copy after Gilbert went gold.

Never received it.

I, to this day, don't even know if Ken or myself are listed as beta testers in the end credits (which were the funniest and most clever part of game, in my opinion).

I just have a buggy beta copy - and pages and pages of about 600-700 entries of line-item notes.

I didn't think Gilbert's voice was that bad and wouldn't mind playing it again. But not this beta copy, that's for sure.

Even the people who worked on the game didn't receive a finished copy. Due to some financial shenanigans they didn't even get royalties from sales of the game. Googlegroups still has Lorne Laliberte's posts on the subject archived ***here*** and ***here***.

That's right, Jenny. Mr. Laliberte was one of the writers, if I can recall correctly. I remember discussing it on usenet with him.

It was a shame, really. I passed it up when it hit the stores because I thought I was getting a copy "any day now".

I guess I'm insane then. In addition to replaying many of these games multiple times, I've read the novels some games were based on. I've read both Under A Killing Moon and Pandora Directive so many times that the covers are falling apart.  I've mask taped them together and stop myself from reading them more than once a year (since I can't play either game with the newer computers)  I've borrowed MYST from the library at least 3 times. I can't play ANY of the Myst games for some reason although I have Myst, Riven, Exile AND Uru, the last of which I've never been able to finish.
I can at least Play Overseer on my ME.

Gilbert Goodmate is still being sold, but for PocketPC.

They call it a "point'n'tip adventure."

Wow! Thanks, Andromus! I didn't think to look on MobyGames for this info.

Gee. I'm credited for something. I'm on the Internet! W00t!

Uh, what does "W00t" mean anyway? Is it considered "L33t"-speak? Is it passé? Is it strictly relegated to human teenager use?

According to the Urban Dictionary:

WOOT
originated as a hacker term for root (or administrative) access to a computer. However, with the term coincides with the gamer term. "w00t".

"w00t" was originally a truncated expression common amoung players of Dugeons and Dragons table top role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost it's original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement.

I typically don't replay adventure games either. This mainly comes down to my focus on puzzles versus story though. I rewatch movies even though I know the story back to front start to finish, but a puzzle is no longer a puzzle if I know the solution from memory. HOWEVER, I did replay "
ay of the Tentacle" on my PSP recently and to my surprise got stuck a couple of times. Now I last played DOTT when it was first released so my memory is obviously failing in the minute detail stakes which now means I could probably replay quite a few older lucas arts adventures and have that "first play" experience all over again
