Yeah, I do that too sometimes. Thank god for spoiler tags... then I have the choice to read or not.
I am playing from a desktop shortcut. It's like you're reading my mind!
Darn installation options that end up being buggy. It's just so convenient to have a desktop shortcut. :
Not everyone who plays from the desktop icon has the savegames problem. (I didn't.)

Huh? Not nasty at all. Not even rude. Just not as civil, polite and tactful as I could have been. I'm simply getting immensely tired of asking again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again if people would please, pretty please, pretty pretty please use spoiler tags. I honestyly truly really don't understand what the problem is. Why can't people simply press that question mark? That's ALL you have to do. I've been asking this for YEARS. One carless little comment about the ending of a game can ruin my fun, anybody's fun in playing a particular game.
Why don't you shut up or do something positive for a change.
Oh dear god, please let it not be the Vendetta Thing again!
How about writing a review, or beta testing a game, or writing a UHS-File or a walkthrough or a Hint Sheet, or helping somebody who's stuck, or whatever?
Phew, that was close! I'll put your mind at rest, I have already done 3 out of those 6 things. Including a very specific "whatever".
You are indeed superb at negativity (both here & on other Forums).
Yeah? Well, you should know... some of your posts (both here & on other forums) have been kind of... how shall I put it... nasty and rude.

| Deleted User | ~~ Betje ~~ ... Not everyone who plays from the desktop icon has the savegames problem. (I didn't.) For your so erudite information (I can repay nastiness with interest ... as you probably know from the 'other' Forum):- There are DEFINITELY a clutch of problems associated with the Save/Load mechanism ... some players may not even have noticed them!! It IS after all a freeware completely volunteer effort (and a terrifically good one at that)!
FYI (unlikely!)... It so happens that I was the beta-tester who first stressed some of the save-game mechanisms' very gory details, which were examined in considerable detail and are now in the process of being considerably overhauled!

One carless little comment about the ending of a game can ruin my fun, anybody's fun in playing a particular game. FYI, dear faultless Betje, I am one of the people who is EXTREMELY careful about NOT inserting spoilers without very clear warnings (incidentally ... the spoiler mechanisms on the 7 or 8 different Forums I attend are not identical).
Of course with your vastly superior knowledge, you are aware that some demos fail to have a definitive ending. In a VERY few DEMOS only are there are 2 somewhat different endings.
To stress this additional work put in by the dedicated FoY Developers, without telling how to attain them IS HARDLY A SPOILER.
Nor is the info that there are TWO mutually exclusive methods (without specifying EITHER of them) of achieving an objective A SPOILER. It is merely an addition for quite a few people who thought that there was only ONE method of achieving this ... not you of course dear Betje!
Yeah? Well, you should know... some of your posts (both here & on other forums) have been kind of... how shall I put it... nasty and rude. Here you are perfectly correct Betje and I agree with you! I am generally the epitome of politeness, diplomacy, and tact … and certainly do my best not to hurt &/or offend peoples’ feelings.
However, ALWAYS when gratuitously attacked personally with intentional nastiness & aggression, the main (or sole) objective to be negatively offensive, I try to give as good as I get … and more if possible
Enough of this TOTAL waste of time & energy! Back to finishing the beta-testing of a really wonderful new game (IMHO) due to be released before the end of June (2006).

I had a wonderful revelation this morning: Why put all that energy into something nobody cares about but Evil Betje? What a waste of my time and energy! So what if someone casually and out of the blue reveals the identity of the killer in a game other people haven't played yet. Am I my brother's keeper? Nooooo. Don't we have free speech? Yeeeeees! I'm casting off the shackles of the spoiler tags! I'm FREE!

I've been following the progress (or non-progress) of FoY for years (it's been around for ages, even before 2000 I think). Their example was exactly what I had in mind when I refused teaming up with other people for my free game. It's nice to see they're alive again, their determination to continue the project even after they lost the initial source code is admirable. Oh, and, dear Len, please don't feed the trolls.

Status : Online | #1 You have both insulted/attacked me before, but everyone can have a bad day, no worries. Betje seems to have a couple more of these, but keep in mind I rarely visit the P&R board (that's where Len attacked me once, but it's usually a bit hot over there ).
#2 Len, what you posted can be considered a spoiler. It was a detailed account on endings (instead of saying there are multiple, which is fine), which is, to my understanding, a spoiler. As for the other thing, I wouldn't call that a spoiler. It's a feature, like multiple endings.
#3 Betje, the majority of people inside this thread used spoiler tags. It's not your duty, but you fail to comment on that. Personally, I have seen your share of fights in which you are right, from my point of view. Most of the time I don't understand what's wrong and I think, "That Betje should just chill a bit more, now." Anywho...I consider all of this mild quarreling.
@alkis I didn't know that their source code was stolen...that's bad and all the more reason to applaud carrying through with the game.

My good friend (sincerely) Alkis :- thanks for the advice. You're right of course.
Much more productive to finish the beta-testing of "Al-Emmo"... there are still just a very few roughish edges. BTW ... I think you'll like it enormously. It's 3rd person point & click, humorous, full of tricks and innovations, mainly inventory based puzzles (some quite toughies), pure adventure (except for some not TOO difficult timed action ONY at the very end of the final 9th Act ... with INSTANT resurrection every time), etc., etc.

I don't think it was stolen.. I don't know the details, but I remember checking the web site every couple of weeks for updated screenshots... at some point, progress stop, with the latest news being that they were "waiting for the programmer to update something". After endless waiting, they regrettably abandoned the project. I think the programmer just disappeared. Indeed, they deserve an applause for carrying on. Mind you, all of the above happened many years ago and therefore my memory may be wrong on the details. Thank you for the suggestion Len... I wish I had the time to play games, but as you very well know I'm kind of busy these days.

Despite crossing swords with you (on more than one occasion), I nevertheless do not underestimate your abilities and do appreciate your erudition. Presumptuous eh!
Apart from other things, I have said before on these Forums, that your English for somebody born & bred in Holland (beg pardon... the Netherlands) is fabulous.
I just wish that you would apply your (undeniable) talents more often to constructive criticisms, or suggestions, instead of the frequent caustic negative ones!

OK, I take that back, I'm still having issues with that particular person.
I feel like posting my question in here.
Spoiler AlertHow do I get past the drunken Nazi? I can get him distracted so he's inspecting the car and I picked up the cup and compass, but I still can't pass. What paper? I've pixel-hunted but found nothing and can't do anything with the canteen. I also have a knife, magnet, toolbox, and have read the other items that were already in Indy's inventory.

I thought Spoiler AlertThe needle in the compass is the one the fisherman had stolen by the drunken Nazi. Am I supposed to be able to give it back to him?

Spoiler AlertI assume you've got past that Nazi guard by now & don't need any further nudges !?! If you need anything (else) just post or PM.
