While looking for some news about Interactive Fiction I found out that the 7th version of the Inform programming language is available (www.inform-fiction.org). While I've never actually written IF, since English is not my main language, I did work through the examples in the Inform beginner's guide, using Inform 6 (I guess...).

The differences between the older and newer programming language are huge. In Inform 7 you can use (almost) natural English to program the IF world. This works extremely intuitive; in a matter of minutes I could compose a series of rooms with objects including descriptions.

I'm curious how this will influence the number and quality of IF-works produced in the coming months / years.

Are other IF-players just as surprised by this development as I am or did I just miss something in the last months?

I started writing IF like a week ago, starting with TADS, but yesterday I transfered my work to Inform 7 and that in retrospect was a very good decision.

Very easy to use and it lets me concentrate on the creative part instead of fiddling with symbols and commands.
Hopefully I will have a alpha or beta version ready within a few weeks.
I'm suprised at how easy it is to use and I think there be a small upswing in good IF works.

I have looked a bit into this and it seems to be nothing short of revolutionary. The concept is brilliant and it does feel quite natural to "code" with it. The nifty IDE bundled with the software is also incredibly helpful. It left me very pleasantly surprised...

I think this should definitely give a considerable boost to the IF scene!
