It was drop dead beautiful; extremely varied in scenery and puzzles; and kept me enthralled for months. I've always thought it was underappreciated because of the initial debacle which "URU online" became. [smiley=huh.gif]

That's a tough one because my all-time favorite AGs represent a range of styles with very different moods. They are all superb games though - and while "best" and "favorite" are not interchangeable terms, I still tend to rely on personal preference as a key factor when determining the best of a genre.
Of the extremely well-made AGs I have thoroughly enjoyed over the years, Grim Fandango and The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery (a.k.a. Gabriel Knight 2) are virtually tied at the top with at least a dozen others very close behind, which represent any even more diverse set of styles.
But to answer the question simply,
BEST HUMOROUS AG: Grim Fandango
BEST SERIOUS AG: Gabriel Knight 2
Cheers, Terry

I really can't say "x" game is the best to me, cause that seems like it'd be putting down other ones .
Sanitarium is one of my favorites, along with the Syberia series, monkey island/full throttle, and Blade Runner.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've played enough good games since then (Day of the Tentacle, Fate of Atlantis, Shivers 1, The Longest Journey, etc) that my own list needs to be completely redone.
As for my all time favorite game: I can't name one, even if my top 50 list says otherwise; my top ten or fifteen games are all special to me, if not all in the same way.
Particularly memorable to me though are Deja Vu, for introducing me to adventuring, and Myst for reintroducing me later on.

All of them number one.

I'm with Shed. URU. For visual appeal, story addiction, controls, interaction...you name it. And the community lives on to today.
Most puzzling game that others love: Grim Fandango. I cannot figure why that game is so popular. It irritates me beyond belief. lol.
Second choice: Syberia, then TLJ, then all of the others.

Grim Fandango, hands down.

Status : Online | My top 3:
1) King's Quest VI. That game was nothing short of epic, and is one of the few adventure games I've ever replayed. It helps that it was one of the first games I ever played, so part of it may be nostalgia factors talking, but man did I spend hours on that game at a time, and probably wouldn't be a computer gamer today without it.
2) A close runner-up would be Zork Nemesis. I don't care much for Myst-like puzzles or the first person perspective, but this one won me over, It also had some pretty tough puzzles, but I was never overly frustrated or confused over what I should be doing at any given moment, nor did I feel cheated when I figured out what the answer was. And it had a "surprise" ending that I honestly never saw coming.
3) I know this is probably hitting the redundancy button, but Scratches gave me more enjoyment, more tense moments, and more emotional highs and lows than practically any other game I have ever played.

The whole day? My answer to the question is Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge.

Just brilliant story line, told fantastically, great puzzles, awesome interface, cool graphics, superb dialogs and voice overs. Hell, I even liked the action sequences near the end of the game. Oh, and talk about a satisfying ending! Perfect game!
Come on Elfstone, where are you? GK3 needs some extra support in here!
