So I hope no one minds that I provide a link directly to Dead Mountaineer's Hotel so everyone can see.
Nifty little date/clock cursor, too.

That globe papyrus thing on the wall to the left in the picture in the upper left corner? Was in Scratches (if I didn't confuse it with something else).
Living room, bedrooms, study, kitchen, hall (with spiral staircase), attic, studio, cellar, glass house...check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check. Hehe. Cool.
Attention to detail is quite amazing, indeed. I think Silver Earring (or Frogwares for that matter) does similar style interiors.

I have no idea about Dead Mountaineer's Hotel other than what the developers Electronic Paradise have put on their interesting website. If you have the time, take a look at all the applications they have created for designing Adventure games. Quite fascinating, really.
Electronic Paradise is also hiring. Anyone want to live and work in Kiev? (Kiev is in the Ukraine)

Thanks for the link Mark. :-*

I don't think anyone minds top of the notch graphics in adventure games, perhaps some need them less than others but I don't think there's a single person who objects them! It's just that good graphics are not enough to make a game good (although they're probably good enough to make it SELL well).

But there's so much attention to detail, I don't think you can accuse them of plagiarising, can you?
Btw, I might object to overdone realistic graphics if it looks too real, but yet not "real"...anyone get that? I don't have any examples, because I think it didn't happen, yet.

- Syberia is set in a hidden alpine valley. Hey, so is this game. - Syberia opens in a hotel in a little village. Hey, so does this game! - Syberia had lots of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture (and was the first in using that). Hey, so has this game! - Syberia had an episode in a greenhouse with palms. Hey, so has this game!
Now all you need is Katy Walky instead of Kate Walker.

Since this is the first I've heard of the game and it was not readily evident from either the screenshots or the brief text overview, is it even going to be in a third person point of view like Syberia?
At least I didn't notice any sign of a visible main character in the images or a mention of the perspective in the text.
Regarding the setting and style, it does look a lot like parts of Syberia 1 & 2. So perhaps it was inspired by those beautifully crafted titles. But given that the game is being made by a Russian studio, maybe they have other reasons for wanting to use that particular style and landscape. Either way, it is quite likely that they have an even better understanding of it than Benoit Sokal.
Cheers, Terry

Not sure if anything is going on with this. I first saw those screenshots probably 6 months to a year ago and there haven't been any changes. If you look at their schedule, it's quite agressive. They have 6 AGs and one FPS lined up for 2006 release. It doesn't look like the game scheduled for Q1 2006 have come out yet. So I don't know how reliable it is. Right now its the same images and no web updates.

If it would feature similar gameplay issues, that's when the interest will take a nose dive towards ignoring this game. But like Ivinia said, apart from some screenshots and a funky website (great cursor!), there's not really much info available. :-/
On a side note, scrolling through the list of upcoming releases, my eye was even more caught by Dark Star. Now that game looks like it'll deliver all the goods! 8-)

I agree with Alkis. The graphics make me want to play it, but I'm wise enough now to hold off and see what the reviews think of the story line and puzzles. However, because the graphics are so enjoyable I'm quite prepared for the story/puzzle standard to be below that of say Obsidian or Riven. I think I've been conditioned not to expect all elements to be top notch. So if it's on the same level as Syberia, I'll enjoy it. BTW I got the impression it was 1st person. Hope so.

You think Syberia was the first adventure game to be set in a snowy area in a hotel....?
Syberia I/II are some of my favorite adventure games, but in no way do they have any grounds to cry about plagiarism.
you don't know even know the story, how it's going to play out, what characters you'll meet in it, etc.
I doubt you'll be going around the landscape on a train while meeting various automatons and such on your way.
From what we know, it sounds much more like a murder mystery/suspense game then Syberia.

Benoit Sokal has his roots in France. France is home to the alps (and indeed alpine valleys) and home to the Art Nouveau movement, which features so evidently in Syberia. France and Canada (his current working place) have the most spectacular snow landscapes on the face of the earth, so mr. Sokal should feel quite at home there too.
Yes, Syberia is in Russia. But by far the most architectural work in Syberia is either French-inspired  Art Nouveau in Validelene)), German/French (Art Deco, Barrockstad) or (again) French/Hungarian (Empire/Neo Gothic in Aralbad)
Stiler: It is not that I criticise the story. Indeed, I know very little about it. But the 'hidden alpine valley' theme combined with abundant art nouveau, was something that was very, very particular to Syberia. The very style of the artwork, is copy-paste, albeit it beautiful. It just not very creative, the artist has drawn on Syberia resources too much.
So it is the artwork combined with the setting that I criticise. I have no doubt that Microids-artists will feel exactly the same on this matter.
And Girl Pirate: of course I object to copying Myst or any other game as well. Of course Alida is close to plagiarsm.

I call Kate Walker "Walkie Talkie".
But I like your spelling better. So now she is formally known to me as "Ms. Walky Talky".
Heavens. I had heard about how appropriate it was for her to be named "Walker", but I had *no* idea how true that was.
I am finishing up the Barrockstadt level: the train station, the barge people, the Stationmaster, the Rectors, Barrockstadt University (a note about the Professor's presentation: I got a bit bored with it, so I left it to exhaust itself out. So: I went into the kitchen, washed my hands, heated up a full course dinner, put it on a plate, put the plate on a tray, got serviettes and silverware, got ice from the freezer, poured myself a glass of water, came back...and the Professor was still lecturing ).
I have never done so much "to 'n' fro'in'" in a game in my life!, and wish the woman would at least stop and get herself an avocado sandwich or something.
Or eat a few of those damn precious Sauvignon berries herself.
No wonder she looks so good "melted and poured into" her Calvin Kline jeans. She absolutely starves herself and walks miles and kilometres endlessly!
In fact, I saw the bed in the passenger car and all I wanted for her to do was lie down and take a damn nap so I could get some sleep, too.
Talk about anorexic behaviour! [smiley=zombie.gif]

She does walk around a lot. It was my first 3rd person game but I loved the scenery so much I forgave her.
