SnowmanSorcerer Apprentice![]() ![]() Posts : 309 Joined: 10 OCT 2002 Status : Online | I selected adventure games because I just didn't find the mindless "kill anything that moves" games interesting. Also, probably because I wasn't very good at them. So, I turned to adventure games. The idea of actually making decisions for my character and having them influence the story really intrigued me. My first AG was Angel Devoid which I bought because I thought the story sounded cool. Ever since then, I've been hooked. I really only get to play 6-8 hours a week, so a game lasts me a while and I spend maybe another 3-4 hours cruisin' the 'net. When I'm not playing AG's I'll play my NHL 2002, though I am thinking of trying out a few FPS's again, like Splinter Cell and Nightfire. Other than computer games and other general computer stuff my only other hobbies would probably be golf and reading/watching mysteries. Never do anything half-assed, always use your WHOLE ass!! |

mbc841Space Cadet![]() Posts : 194 Joined: 10 OCT 2002 Status : Online | My becoming an Adventure Gamer was quite by accident. Although, you could also say it was a result of the intense marketing campaign by the publishers of "Myst". When I got my first computer in 1995 that had Windows 95 and a CD Rom drive, I was basically out shopping for any kind of program that came on CD Rom. I had never heard of "Adventure Games" per se. I went into Best Buy, and excitedly began looking for anything I could buy and try out on my brand new, top of the line, technologically advanced Acer Aspire PC. It had an unheard of 1 GB hard drive, and a Quad-Speed CD Rom, and ran at an astonishing 75 Mhz. It was AMAZING. When I entered the computer software section of the store, what I found staring me in the face was an entire aisle of nothing but "Myst". The boxes were big and the pictures were bright and colorful. The one thing I DID know at this early stage, was that I was not interested in any Atari-type arcade games. I wasn't much of an Atari fan to begin with. Too nerve wracking for my liking. So "Myst" it was, and the rest is history. I guess if that first purchase had been of a Simulation game, or a RPG, I may never have gone the way of Adventures. I'll never know. When I'm not playing Adventure games, I like to play Simulation games. My favorite is Roller Coaster Tycoon. I also like Sim City, Sim Tower, and the Sims. Although, here as of late, I feel like I've discovered Adventure Games for the very first time, by way of making them. So my hidden passion is making Adventure Games. I'm now beginning my second game, and the creative juices are really flowing. I haven't felt this kind of obsessive energy since I first began playing the games. dimidimidimiSchattenjger![]() Posts : 1784 Joined: 10 OCT 2002 Status : Online | I started playing adventures because a friend of mine had told me that he had Indiana Jones and the last crusade in a computer game, and since I used to be a big indiana jones fan, I asked him to give it to me. I was a big movie fan in general, and I thought that this was the closest you could get to a movie through games. I continued playing other genres also though. Until one day. That day was when I finished Gabriel Knight 2. Then I said that this is it, adventures rule, and there is nothing else that can come near them. I still play some other genres though, mostly sports, RPGs, and I used to play space simulators back in the days of Wing Commander. As for my other hobbies, training in the gym and basketball, watching basketball/football, movies, and used to party a lot, but not so much the last two years (with the exception of last summer that I was working on a Greek 'party' island). Now with the Inventory going on, games have almost become half of my life, since I have to review 2,3 games every month, and I also have to play a little bit of sports pc games. I didn't use to spend much time on the internet, but since I got a broadband connection this September...let's just say more time than I should spend. bistroSorcerer Apprentice![]() ![]() Posts : 240 Joined: 15 OCT 2002 Status : Online | Why have you selected adventure games as your genre of choice? Myst did it for me too--followed shortly by the Tex Murphy series. I was hooked. What do you play when you are not playing adventures? It was just an experiment, but I played Medal of Honor--Allied Assault---was never into FPS before that. Now playing the Spearhead expansion. It's actually quite well done. What are your other hobbies? Watching my 11-year old daughter grow up. Building and modding PCs. In general, how many hours a week do you spend playing computer games? Probably around 15 hours including weekends. How many hours do you spend wandering around the Internet? Just about all the rest of time left over from doing the above. I moderate at a couple of other forums and spend most of my time there. |

GTA3 or tony hawk 3... only when on the phone. other then that i dont really play much else.. all my AG's are just under 200 miles away at my girlfreinds (long story) What are your other hobbies? i love spending time with my girlfreind like to skateboard prank call linsurance firms the odd film is fine by me, but there is so much i dont like BEING HERE!! sounds stupid but i really feel im amoungst friends here. How many hours do you spend wandering around the Internet? 30-60 mins a day, deleating spam, checking here and my mates website (www.ukgl.20m.com) forum. [b]Its boring, there isn't any action at all. GayleSchattenjger![]() Posts : 2544 Joined: 12 OCT 2002 Status : Online | I think it all started with Dark Seed and a couple of other games around that time. Adventure games were my first games, then started going to computer shows and definitely have expanded my tastes. The adventure category is very wide and encompasses quite a variety of games, style of play and adventures. I play RGP and Action games. I think that gaming is the main focus, but have a good collection of movies that I like, music I like, love to read and I also collect american indian and mayan pottery, though only have 5 pieces so far. Hard to say, if really good game then probably from 40 to 48 hours or more a week. I don't know, I seem to becoming here a lot but as to wandering to wander around the rest of the net maybe 4 hours a week if that much (not including here). |

But a great adventure beats all... What do you play when you are not playing adventures? I work from home, so work. Or write here. Or play games, watch films, go out. Gonna see Jurrasic 5 in MARCH! YEAH! What are your other hobbies? Collecting animation books, DVD's and materials. Developing ideas for animations. In general, how many hours a week do you spend playing computer games? Too many. How many hours do you spend wandering around the Internet? Too many. Is there an echo in here? |

| Deleted User | I bought my first computer about 12 years ago. I had used them at work but the relationship between me an the machine was poor. I bought my first game on the same day as the PC. It was Star Trek: 25th. Anniversary and I was hopeless with it. Several days later I bought Laura Bow and the Dager of Amon Ra and my fate was sealed. I was in love with computer games. I don't enjoy the character development in RPG's. My coordination/reflexes are not good enough for action games (and I don't like them anyway). Sports, real or virtual, are not my thing. Adventure games are the perfect thing for me. I love a good quest, I love fantasy, I love mysteries and above all, I love a good story. I spend FAR TOO MUCH TIME on the Internet. Some of it is for personal enjoyment and some of it is for The Schedule of Releases. I spend too little time actually playing games. When I am not playing games or scouting the Internet I like to cook, play with our animals, draw and paint a little, read a lot (history and good mysteries) and spend time with my family and friends. Other than adventures, I enjoy good simulations such as the SimCity games. I enjoy the Civilization games also. Harriet@JA |

SirDaveGuild Master![]() ![]() Posts : 4941 Joined: 17 OCT 2002 Location: US Status : Offline | Due to the nature of my work, I find it necessary to come home and play a round or 2 of Medal of Honor-Allied Assault or NHL2002 on my XBox just so I can knock or blow away baddies that seriously need it (gets rid of pent-up aggression). On the other hand, I have brain that ordinarily just won't shut down ie. true relaxing is difficult. Surprisingly, the Myst-like point and clickers provide a welcome relief- the more time I spend solving a puzzle (not to mention losing myself in another world), the less I think about stupid worldly worries! So that's why I was drawn to adventure games. Along those lines, one of the reasons I'm collecting them now, is I want a lifetime supply of AGs ready to play.

Unfortunately, I had never played anything like Myst before and was not aware of the broader adventure genre until I picked up, quite by accident, a copy of Timescape: Journey to Pompeii. Actually, I think this is a problem with Myst- the Myst fans do not necessarily play other adventures because they simply do not follow the adventure sites- many of which are pretty brutal to the series. The first video game I ever saw anyone play was an adventure game. Monkey Island II I believe it was. Point n clicks were big in those days. The first adventure game (probably the first game) I've ever bought was Leisure Suit Larry 7. Then more point n clicks were added to my collection.
Studying! It sucks being a student. I am a fan of the cinema as well and I love dvds.
Apart from watching movies, I like to read. Look after my sea monkeys and annoy my neighbours.
Not that many. Maybe like 2 hours per day max.
LOADS! I surf like at least 3-4 hours a day. I'm a geek. |
