The kings in a deck of cards each represent a great king from history. Name each one and their corresponding suit.

Interesting. I never heard that the kings should represent any historical (or mythical for that matter) figures. My "research" shows that during certain periods in history concrete names were indeed assigned to the royal cards (not just kings). But I'll wait and see if anyone can answer off the top of their heads.

I have also found out about the origins of the various styles of card decks that I've seen in Central Europe. Apparently the canasta/bridge deck (hearts, diamonds, spades, clubs) is of French origin, the doppelkopf style deck (hearts, hawk bells, leaves, acorns) are the German variation and the Tarot style deck (cups, swords, coins, rods) can be traced to Italy.

BTW is this a deliberate trick question?

Not a deliberate trick question. I'm merely using one source for the answer.

The answers in no particular order are:

King David
Alexander the Great
Charlemagne
Julius Caesar

Can you match them up to the appropriate suit?

What?

Charlemagne - hearts
David - spades
Caesar - diamonds
Alexander - clubs

However, all this is apparently not really true. See here:

Yes, I saw differing information also after I had already made the post.

Makes you wonder if any trivia site can be taken totally at "face-value".

OK. I tried to liven up this category. Now, I pass the torch...

Some interesting trivia questions, please!
