Are there any?

Having just finished Indigo Prophecy on my PS2 for the 2nd time (I'll write final comments soon, I swear!), I'm in the mood for more adventure games.  Looking at my small collection of games, I have about 5 DDR games, The X-Files: Resist or Serve, Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari, The Simpsons: Hit & Run, and The Sims: Bustin' Out.

Both Katamari games are fun here & there, The Sims DOES NOT compare to the PC version at all (I miss my downloads), The Simpsons is fun but HARD so I can only play it in little spurts, and The X-Files is almost an adventure game if I turn on cheat codes.

I know there is a PS2 version of Broken Sword 3 available in Europe.  I might snag it off of eBay (assuming it will work with a U.S. console) just to get another adventure game, even though I already have the PC version.  I really like the game and would love to play it more often.  Everytime I see the Xbox version in stores I think, "Why just the Xbox version in the U.S.?"

I think both Syberia games and Still Life are out for Xbox, but that doesn't help me.

The good news is that it sounds like Dreamfall will be available for PS2.  However, I need more than that.

Any suggestions?  Recall that I've only had my PS2 for about 5 months, so I've missed out on lots of stuff.

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

Ico? I've heard good things about it being a PS-Only game means it's overlloked at times. Shadows of Memories?

If you're into action-adventure try out Beyond good and Evil - excellent game, but requires some dexterity.

The Silent Hill games were horror/adventure oriented. Also a few Discworlds are available for the PS. The Fatal Frame series is another good mix of horror/adventure. Psychic Detective is also available for the PS. PS1 games will run in your PS2.

It is NOT possible to play European games on an American PS2 (well, unless you want to do illegal things to it).
Also, you CAN play PS1 games on your PS2 but you do need a PS1 memorycard to save your progress.

A list I have compiled from several similar topics on several other sites. Probably not complete and there may still be some games that have *some* action in the list of true adventures because I have not played them all. Also, not all games may be available in all territories.

PlayStation 2:

(true, no action)

Atlantis III: The New World
Broken Sword - The Sleeping Dragon
Echo Night: Beyond
Escape from Monkey Island
Glass Rose
Largo Winch - Empire under Threat
Myst III
Shadow of Memories/Shadow of Destiny
Still Life
Syberia 1/2

(some action)

Primal
Beyond Good & Evil
ICO
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
ClockTower 3
Fatal Frame/Project Zero 1/2/3
Silent Hill 1/2/3

PlayStation 1

(true, no action)

Amerzone
Ark of Time
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
Aztec
Blazing Dragons
Broken Sword 1 & 2
China
City of Lost Children
D
Discworld 1/2/Noir
Dracula: The Last Sanctuary
Dracula: The Resurrection
Echo Night 1/2
Egypt 1156 B.C./II The Heliopolis Prophecy
Gold & Glory: The Road to El Dorado
Juggernaut
Kowloon's Gate
The Last Report
The Messenger/Louvre: The Final Curse
Myst
Necronomicon
Prisoner of Ice
Psychic Detective
Riven: The Sequel to Myst
Sentient

(some action)

Clock Tower 1/2
X-Files
Beta-tester of 'The Path', 'Rhiannon', 'Scratches', 'Hope Springs Eternal', 'Time Stand Still', 'Frasse and the Peas of Kejick', '1893: A World's Fair Mystery', 'Carte Blanche' and 'Oakhaven Plantation' a.o.&&

My reasoning for this thread was to find out about adventure games, not action-adventure.  I'm aware that there are plenty of those.

I've read all of Aya's reviews for the Silent Hill & Fatal Frame games, but they sound a bit too action-y for me.  Anything where I have to think quickly throughout the entire game is what I'm trying to avoid.  It sounds like the more adventure-oriented games came out when the PS1 was in production.  But as I've yet to play a Discword game, I have something to look forward to - assuming I can find it.

I do what I can.  The trick is finding something clever and witty that's within 30 characters. 8-)

the only adventure that i know of that is ps2-only is echo night: beyond... all the others are either survival horror (eg fatal frame and silent hill series) or action adventures (survival horror is an action/adventure sub-genre), or are available for the pc too (much better choice!)... i don't know glass rose though

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

X-Files was a pretty good FMV adventure for the PS1. I'm not a big fan of FMV adventures, but this was one of the better ones that I've played.

I realize it's the obvious suggestion, but I had pretty good luck finding that kind of stuff on eBay in the past.

Can't use Ebay quite yet, no credit card.  That's my common problem at the moment since I can only pay for stuff with Paypal and money orders.

demonryu, to avoid disappointment, please be aware you cannot play European (PAL) PlayStation games on a USA system (NTSC).

I have a modded NTSC PS2 so I can play Japanese and European titles, which is why I seek another place to buy from.
