Oh yes, I know what you mean about that game! - I have installed it 5 times now in an attempt to finally finish it, but after a few days i think "why am i bothering?" The game does have a good atmosphere and can be a little unsettling, but the puzzles drag on and on and on and on and on and .............. well , you get my drift

Plus there's all that sewer funk. They'd have you believe that vampires are used to the smell.

It gets mentioned pretty often ...
Why ?
It can get pretty aggravating if you try to play it using only the mouse. You can click ahead of the character and he'll run the exact opposite direction you want him to. Yet if you use solely the keyboard, you may have a problem with the stairs. And then there's that puzzle with the bottle where you have to use the mouse in a different way than usual.
One of the first things you have to do is go around the castle looking for people and exhausting conversations with them. It's very boring, but if you don't do certain conversations, certain actions and items don't become available so you can't progress in the game. And after you exhaust the conversation possibilities with one character you may have to go back and talk to him all over again after talking to someone else.
And to make matters worse, the majority of the voice acting is appalling. Imagine calling in your 80 year old Grandpa and sticking a script in front of him out of the blue. Imagine doping up your secretary until she is too tractable to refuse you anything and then sticking a script in front of her. I think this is what they did. The voice acting is what you'd expect from using such a strategy. Chances are your computer will think so too, because many people had the voice track cut out while they were playing the game. It's easily correctible by saving, exiting the game, restarting the game, and loading the save. But then why would you want to have those voices back.
The really interesting part of the game (for me anyway) was when I finally got into the old part of the castle. But the time I spent mucking about in there was unfortunately very short compared to the onerous chore of seeking out all the characters to talk to in the first part of the game.
And there was one really annoying timed sequence toward the end which involved not only timing but speed and accuracy while you have a clumsy interface with flipping camera angles to impede your navigation.
The game does have some good points. You have a lot of opportunity to explore the castle and rummage through peoples' drawers (No not those kind of drawers. Too bad). The movement system isn't that bad once you learn when it's best to use the mouse and when it's easier to use the keyboard. Use the mouse when you want to walk or run directly to an object or a staircase. Use the keyboard when you want to traverse open areas.
You are able to swap between 2 characters and in at least one case you have to to solve a puzzle.
There is a text option available if you (or your computer) absolutely can't stand the voice acting.
And the story was interesting (though I think it could have been told better).
Despite all the negative points, some people actually liked the game. So if you're really curious, go ahead and play it.

I appreciate that !
I am just curious because it is the only adventure game (I am aware of) which takes place in Austria.
Despite Indiana Jones & Last Crusades Schloß Brunwald-part of course.

Status : Offline | Watchmaker - maybe someday I'll finish it. That's what I thought and then my computer crashed and I dread the thought of going through all those boring conversations again. The voice acting is certainly abysmal.
Traitor's Gate - seemed like a good idea but felt there was a lot of pointless meandering about
City of Lost Children - too weird and annoying
Lighthouse - annoying puzzles among other things
> Messenger - didn't realize it was an "action" adventure which I dislike intensely - I play for relaxation and don't like sressful games.
Rama I almost finished and then my computer at the time crashed and I never bothered to reload it.
Nine - probably the worst game I've attempted
Dust: Tale of the wired West. Sorry, the graphics and story did not grab me
Still adventuring after all these years!
Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...
... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...

I will never ever play CODENAME Iceman again > > >
This game is a an impertinence, to say the least !!!
You spend more time reading the manual than playing the actual game. The program is more alike a (bad) submarine simulation than an adventure game. I managed to play some of the arcade sequences and waited for some puzzles (except the "tool time" conveyer belt one), for nothing. I checked the walkthrough, to figure out approximately when I get to play an adventure again ...
After I found out that about 2/3 (or even more) of the remaining game consists in
fighting Russian destroyers, decoding messages (again), avoiding an iceberg, decoding messages (for the third time), fighting Russian submarines (YARN > ), maneuvering the submarine to another destination, managing to survive a diving sequence
%$&! it !!! > > >
This was supposed to be a Sierra adventure ???
The only somewhat enjoyable part was the Tahiti vacation in the beginning. (But just because it resembled the Larry series)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Curious didn't mention it cause i didn't want to start a flame war! but it's in 3d, it's fairly new and it was the 3rd of a fantastic, up to that point, series... i guess you know by now! (btw all this is for sierra's classic 3rd person advs only, not ALL sierra's releases - and those 3 are actually the only sierra classic advs i didn't like at all)

Status : Online | I'll finish just about any AG unless it doesn't work properly. I'll put up with about anything before walking away from a game. Nevertheless, heres a few that I enjoyed so little that I pulled the plug:
(1) Traitors Gate : For one who loves linear AG's (please insert disc 2), hates timed puzzles (please insert disc 4)and is no fan of action adventure (please insert disc 3), I kinda wish I'd read a few more reviews before picking this one up.  $5 in a used bin, how could I resist?) The disc swapping (please insert disc 1, now disc 3) was a real treat as well. I know lots of folks love this game but it was just not my cup of tea. (2) Arthur's Knights : Interface Interface Interface. Loved the story, loved the graphics, loved the concept. Hated the interface. It should not take an hour to find the hotspot needed to open a door. Too bad. Even so, I may yet go back to this one...... (3) Interestingly enough, several games waiting on my shelf are listed in other people's lists. Not a good sign. Here's hopeing they work for me.
