I am trying to get WinFrotz 2002 in XP to run the Infocom graphical games (specifically Arthur and Journey).  I have downloaded many other interpreters, with no luck.  WinFrotz actually has a very helpful help section... if the help they provided would acutally make the games run.  I have downloaded patches, but have been unable to successfully patch the files.  I have downloaded the .blb files for the converted graphics, ensured that the .blb and the .zip files have the same names exactly, and the damned things STILL won't open.

Is there a Windows interpreter that will allow me just to run these .zip files as is?  If not, can someone offer me some advice as to how to get them running?
oesn't have to be in WinFrotz, just tell me what I need to download and I'll go from there.

Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot.  :

It may be a little more work than you're willing to do, but this is a neat program...

If you have other DOS-based games, then it may be worth the effort.  I set it up and can run many of the old DOS games on my system (Win XP).

This page has them for download...

You can download the ZIP file which contains the DOS program.  It may run on your system without DOSBOX.  Note that the ZIP file insides the orignal ZIP is the "Z-Machine" file, not another compressed folder.  Your system will show both as "WinZip" files, but only the one you download is.

Finally, try Windows Frotz 2000.  It supports graphics, but I've never tried it.  I don't know if it will run Arthur, etc.

I just verified that the downloaded files will run on Win XP.  Just unzip the files into a directory and run the .bat file

Let me know how it works for you.

I've tried Windows Frotz 2002... should I try the old version?  The help files for that program are where I found the most help honestly - trying to patch the files, downloading alternate graphics... but to no avail.

DOSBox says it can only run .exe, .bat, and .com files.  I'm not quite sure how to then run a Z-file... should I get a Dos-based interpreter?[/s] Never mind!  I thought the file I downloaded was the Z-file, not an actual ZIP file.  THANK YOU!

Did you get this working in Windows Frotz 2002 in the end? If not email me (I wrote Windows Frotz 2002, my email is in the help file) and we'll see if we can figure out what's wrong.
