As I become more familiar with forums, I am finding that there are a few words that are extremely inflammatory and I would like to ask that you think twice before using any of these words.

The words are quite simply - stupid & idiot.

There have already been numerous instances wherein someone has referred to something that someone has written as stupid and another poster erroneously assumes the first poster has called the author stupid and, well, as we have all seen it invariably turns into a flame war.

Also, please keep in mind that many of the posters at JA Forum are not from North America and that English is not their native language.    So please take this into condiseration before you respond negatively to someone's post because of a 'word' they may have misused or because of a poorly structured sentence.

Let's keep having fun without it getting ugly.

you're the boss randy!

but clear this out for me pls... i use the word stupid a lot but only referring to situations (eg "that stupid Simon 3d"
... are those included?

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

Randy, I promise never to do this. So what the heck is condiseration?

It is fairly obvious that English is not the first language of many who post on this forum.   Unfortunately, it is my ONLY language and I am truly impressed by how well those for whom it is a second language express themselves.  They are to be commended.

Different cultural background may be more important in this case than a different language... like you mentioned, some people equate "what you said was stupid" with "you are stupid" - when the correct translation is "I strongly disagree with what you said".

Also different people have obviously different tolerance levels; I for instance tend to completely ignore insults (which tends to drive the insulting person crazy I'm afraid) but I know other people might freak out in the same situation.

More tolerance from all involved is all that's needed. Think before you act (or type).
I forgot my sig.

I do reserve the right, however, to frequently call myself stupid and an idiot. I promise to not take offense!

I think it's stupid and idiotic to try to police our language like this.

Bravo,  Randy.  Civility should be the order of the day on a nice board like this.
