Status : Offline | I've only played 5 - Byzantine, Rama, Temujin, Broken Sword 2 and Zork GI. My favorite of these is Zork GI. It was imaginative and funny. The use of spells took some getting used to, but in the end they made sense. Byzantine was a good game in that it gave me insight on a part of history that I was unfamiliar with. I liked the use of present and past tense - seeing how things were and how the centuries changed them. Rama was good, plain fun - puzzles you could chew on. Temujin was ok - it was really hard to manouver, and I had some trouble keeping the characters distinct. But, I'm glad I played it. I played Broken Sword 2 as a continuation to the first one. Not really my favorite type of game, but the story was ok enough for me to persist through the dialogue. I own, but haven't played Ark of Time, Last Express and Realms of the Haunting. I'm not really in a rush to, either. Ark of Time is another 3rd person game, and the latter 2 have timed/actiony elements. Not really my cup of tea. However, Last Express is often raved about, so I'm sure I'll get to it sooner or later to see what the fuss is about. Of the rest, none interest me.

Status : Online | Uhm...wasn't Riven released in that year?? And isn't it Sentient, not Sentinent? Now this is tough, actually...
Out of those games I played: Blade Runner (it was ok and the branching storylines were innovative, but it was lacking in some parts too much) Broken Sword 2 (seldomly so disappointed in a game before...nothing like BS [this doesn't mean what you might think it stands for, it wasn't that bad...so why do I write this lengthy explanation if I could just spell it out? hm] for me) Curse of Monkey Island The Last Express
And for more than on this list: Orion Burger (very odd game, which unfortunately won't run any more...curious to try it again) Feeble Files (another probably really good game, but I forgot how it was) Little Big Adventure 2 (half a count for adventure)
It's hard to pick between CoMI, The Last Express and Riven... I throw out CoMI, because it wasn't exactly innovative and I still like MI2 better to this day (probably because I play MI3 only twice and it's been a while). The Last Express is a fabulous game, original and constructed with a lot of dedication. But...Riven takes the prize, I think. I remember being impressed and totally drawn into the game when I started. Ended too soon, but that's about the only complaint (except one rather obscure puzzle, if you want) I can have for it. So that makes it "other", I guess.
I suspect some people might miss this option...

Status : Online | Thanks for pointing out Riven, Elfstone. Even with Riven I only played five games on the list. It's a toss up for me between Riven, Blade Runner, and Zork GI. I'll go with Zork GI.
I think Obsidian came out in 1996.

Even if Obsidian is ineligible, I'd still have to go with "Other" because of Riven. Have a feeling Zork GI will be a favorite when I get around to it, though.

Riven was indeed published in 1997, so if that is your favorite you can vote other.
Sentient indeed is the correct name, my own error, sorry :-[

Broken Sword 2 was also nice, but it was much shorter, there were places where your character could die, and it relied more on it's plot, which was rather weak.

Please delete my Zork GI vote, and relpace it with an other (meaning Riven, of course )

Status : Online | Yes, I should have included Riven I guess - and I would have, but somehow I thought that it was released earlier. Now I have added it to the poll as suggested, however, some of the earlier votes that would have went for Riven have went to other places; so, for it to be fair according to what is written in replies, one vote that went to "other" should go to Riven and one vot ethat went to Zork: Grand Inquisitor should go to Riven. I cannot edit the values of poll, I guess only admins could, but even if no one will edit them I will take into account this issue when counting final numbers (that is, will count +2 votes for Riven and -1 votes for Zork: GI).

Status : Online | Sonic, there is an option to make polls editable for a certain time frame (you can just put 1000 years in there or something). Snowtime, I believe, brought that up in various boards, because we kept noticing that we can no longer change poll votes from before the forum update. You might want to know about this for the next poll.

That was my original choice, but both The Last Express (I marveled at its visual style and the gorgeous, pensive solo violin music in the intro) and Zork: The Grand Inquisitor came a real close second!.
Please proofread your posts carefully to see if you any words out.

Well if it was released on 31 December 1996 then absolutely no one would have played it in 1996. It belongs in 1997 right up there with Riven.

Yes, it was. Read the first page of the thread for more information. But anyway, 2 votes in "other" are for Riven, that's still not keeping up with CoMI. Which was a very good game itself, no doubt about that. I guess that some people don't read the threads and just vote, so they wouldn't know about Riven before it was added. Never mind, Riven got much praise, already.
