I wish that "Reality TV" had never been invented and that ALL people and things connected to American Idol would be sent straight to hell where they belong.

I'll admit I like Grim & Evil and Courage the Cowardly Dog, though.
I thought Serial Mom was great!

You know, "XTreme Sports" shows. It's so '60's, and we didn't wear protective clothing (knee pads, etc.) and get paid gobs of money to maim ourselves. We did it for fun.

now when it comes to tv in greece, i would love to see all the greek "comedy", drama and reality shows that have taken over disappear... you think tv in america is bad? i dare you to survive a week of greek tv! [smiley=shudder.gif] you will never bitch about american tv ever again...

Cheers to that indeed! And whoever invented Big Brother deserves a smack in the face.
Everything starring the Olsen twins, a Hilton, a Simpson, a Spears or an Osbourne should get pulled off the air and I would throw a spontaneous celebration party.
Speaking of Simpsons... No more seasons, please!
Oh, and while we're at it, please cancel all the shows that spawned off Jackass. Finish it all off with a grand episode where all of these people attempt the funniest, stupidest and most spectacular stunt ever, and get badly hurt in the process, ending up in years of rehabilitation... Now that would be funny! [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]
Damn it, all I can think of right now are shows that sadly exist right now, not the ones that are over...

Because, back 15 years ago, a tv makeover involved a woman having someone get her new clothes and doing her hair differently.
Now half of the show is spent going into indepth information on what kind of cosmetic surgery she's getting! That's not a makeover, it's a medical operation! And the problem is, if half of these people actually smiled, stood upright, and showed some confidence in themselves, that'd be all they'd need. Nowadays, they're not happy unless they have someone stapling their ears together and breaking their nose in five places.

Since a few have already been listed, I'll add that ALL daytime "talk shows" and soap operas should be banned from existence for all eternity. Not all talk shows as there are some that deal with serious topics in a mature, intelligent manner and some that are funny parodies or satires. But that utter crap that clutters up practically the entire spectrum of channels during the day with endless streams of moronic nonsense, sensationalistic garbage, over-hyped idol worship, blatant gossip and pathetic excuses for honest advice on self-help are nothing but one big, steaming, worthless pile of human refuse.
Sappy, hand-wringing, often mean spirited soap operas are by comparison benign. But they just plain suck too and evidently they're extremely addictive to millions of people who REALLY need to find something better to do with their time. Might I suggest to them actually reading a "real" book, engaging in a creative endeavor, exercising once in a while, a little charitable work or even... *gasp* a few good adventure games that test the mind and entertain on more than a teenage-drama-queen level of emotions?
Oh and please don't get me started on home shopping networks and infomercials.
Cheers, Terry

Don't you know that they are called reality shows because they depict reality?
Seriously though, I love reality shows. They now make up my main TV watching- this shouldn't surprise anyone who knows what a deep-thinking individual I am! My favorites are American Idol, Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race and, sometimes, The Bachelor/Bachelorette series. The reason I enjoy them so much is that, even though I know that they are heavily edited and probably scripted somewhat (but not as much as some people think), is because I love seeing how the human animal can't help being the animal that it is. I don't mean 'animal' in the sense of primitive (although sometimes that pertains), but more that we simply can't help being ourselves no matter how hard we try.
That means that people on a series like Survivor who know it's not good to be bossy and 'top dog' can't help being so if that is how they are in real life. The wimps are wimps, the crybabies are crybabies and the pampered are the pampered (or wish it so). Believe it or not, watching these series can make you feel better about the craziness you live with in day-to-day life. Not to mention that it is a great source of conversation at work. In my work, there is pretty strong 'pecking order', but when it comes to The Bachelor or Survivor, everyone has an opinion and joins in the conversation no matter what their position. It makes for a lighter atmosphere sometimes.

The future ain't what it used to be!

Although I detest reality television, the shows often make for an interesting study in human nature, I'm fascinated by the psychology of the people involved, insufferable as they often are -- for example, how so many people who sing so badly on American Idol can be so convinced they're the greatest upcoming thing is a complete mystery to me. So I find myself watching even though I dislike nearly all the music, trying to figure out what these people must be thinking.

As for reality shows. I think I've met my nemesis - The Greatest Loser. Can't help but be reduced to tears watching these people try to conquer their own demons.
And I love those shows where they tell people what to wear, especially the English duo who once actually grabbed a woman's breasts and jiggled them. I nearly choked when I saw that! Apart from that I had a classmate called Suzanne Constantine and I keep wondering if it's her all grown up with a posh accent.
And I love changing rooms. How anyone can hand over their house to a pair of dopey neighbours and a crazy interior decorator with a budget of $1200 is beyond me. They get all the dark brown/mirrored/broken-typewriters-as-art that they deserve.
As for the shows I don't like - I don't watch them but an awful lot of people adore them. We can't deny them their entertainment.

Shows I wish were gone: all reality shows, except The Amazing Race (especially Big Brother type shows are the pest) I have never seen American Idol, but the German version please must die nothing else, really

The show is Lost.
You know that I don't think so, but that's not the topic here. I was just surprised to see you putting the show on a "I wish it was gone" list only because you think it's getting nowhere. I'd reserve this place for shows that really hurt me through their pure existence...shows that I don't even want to hear about and which I think ruin our society. But perhaps that's what you think about Lost now.

But perhaps that's what you think about Lost now. I guess I was being a bit smartass putting it on the "Wish Would Go Away" list. After all - Lost is still in its growing stages as a long-running series (what did I hear - a six-year story arc?) and deserves a little developmental space.
I just found the last few episodes of Season 2 to be a bit silly and frantic.
Add to that - we've "lost" some characters I really liked from the beginning.
I sincerely wish it the best in its forthcoming seasons.

The Price is Right--Holy hell....isn't Bob Barker dead yet? If anyone's got a deal with the devil, it's him. I firmly believe that ole Bob is just some dust strategically poured into some clothes--someone else is voicing him through that microphone that should have been replaced 20 years ago. Some days I think that the "ING DING DING DING* from one of those stupid games will drive me mad. <insert Happy Gilmore/Bob Barker joke here>

My hubby wasted TWO YEARS of his life trying to stop our youngest doing that.... boy did I get tired of listening to that argument. > I do concede that it's a funny show I just wish it wasn't on every night, that's all.
We've just had episode 2 season 2 of Lost and I thought it was very clever. The button. Press the button. Enter the code and press the button. Every 108 minutes you enter the code, press the button and SAVE THE WORLD. very clever.
If the story drags on for too long I'll stop watching. So far they've set several unexplained coincidences that they have yet to explain. I hope they do so. Other than that, I rather think I enjoy learning about the characters and their pasts, although I'd like a little more action each week.

I guess it depends on whether the camera can pass the California emissions test and if the dining room as been spayed or neutered
