Since my first computer experience  was in 1997 with Windows 95,  my first adventure game was Myst. At the time, I didn't know it was an adventure game. I  just knew it was different from any other thing  I had played on Sega or Playstation.

The next game I tried was The 7th Guest. After that, I knew I was hooked. Plus my son was playing Phantasmagoria, and I was blown away by that game.

Of course, I knew nothing about old DOS games   or
OS for that matter for years. It was JA and my special JA friends that helped me discoverer the early years of adventure games and coached me  on how to get them running. As a result, I have had so many good times playing the oldies, and many have become my favorites.

The veryfirst game I played was Pong. I still remember my excitement at two white lines across the screen from one another and the ball going in between them.

First adventure was Monkey Island, played at a friend's house.

King's Quest VII got me started, followed by Torin's Passage, Gabriel Knight 2, Leisure Suit Larry VI and Shivers, all played with a friend of mine because she had a new Win95 PC. I think the first game I played all on my own was The Curse of Monkey Island, on my dad's PC. I only really began playing a lot when I got a PC of my own with Win98. The game I played first on that one was the then brand new Gabriel Knight 3 (I didn't know how to find a walkthrough then so it took a good while...mustache...grumble grumble...) ...the rest is lost in a haze...

Although I do remember my brother mocking me for playing the old King's Quest games on my cutting edge machine.

The first three adventure games I owned were King's Quest 5, The Colonel's Bequest, and Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis.  I remember my parents came home one day with three games; however, there is a 4th non-adventure game thrown in the mix somewhere.  So I don't actually remember which one game got me started, as I acquired those all around the same time.

Most likely it was King's Quest 5 or The Colonel's Bequest, but I know CB had the biggest effect on me overall.

I'm aware that this is last year's anniversary image.

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

In the early '80's my Dad bought an IBM PC that was pre-Windows, it only ran DOS. But I think the first graphical adventure game we ever got was an IBM game called Adventures in Serenia. This was very Sierra-like but I think this game came out before Sierra was even in business. I remember that it was sort of text-based but it had color graphics too. All you could do was walk from one screen to the next and find things for your inventory. Then you got things out of your inventory to "solve" a puzzle. Very simple but kind of fun.
