Oh, you'll find a number of big Obsidian fans around here. It had the most original, creative, and nicely clued puzzles I had come across in ages.

Before that I had a Commodore Vic20, Commodore 64.. anyway.. somewhere in there I played 7th Guest and the various ZORKs.
Somewhere in there I also had an Atari 2600. Pitfall Harry! That was kinda adventureous
I'm really not sure what was my "first" adventure game.
My "first" first-person-shooter was Wolf3D! I remember that one.. yeesh.. made me sick... had to get used to a 3D world moving around that fast!

This version was later broken down into 2 parts (Zork I and II) in order to fit onto the micros of the day. The version I played was running on a Data General C330 Eclipse (hmmm, may have been around 1982 or so I guess). Once I got my TRS80 Model 1, I played as many text adventures as I could (loved anything with an egyptian theme). I certainly don't have the patience for them anymore, but they were great fun back then.

You started off in your sitting room, went into the grandfather clock and exited on different levels. I made many, many maps. Myst was a favourite as was Day of the Tentacle.
OOH! you've made me go all nostalgic.

Dyslexics wonder why there isn't a word that means the same thing as "cinnamon."

| Deleted User | Leisure Suit Larry 1 and 3, followed by Eco Quest and a few others, starting in 1991. If you started with Sierra games, I believe you will always have a special feeling about them. Later I played through the main part of their catalogue, but to this day there are still games left to play on my Sierra list. Games that I still look very much forward to play. I also got the LucasArts classics, Myst etc... Almost makes me miss the 90's.

Status : Online | A borrowed copy of Riven on a borrowed Playstation. I wasn't even going to touch it because it was 5 CDs and my the friend who lent me the Playstation had said it was boring and impossible. My wife was away in India for two weeks and I got bored playing Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot, so I thought "Ah well, give it a punt." I was hooked from the opening scenes and became obsessed.
But then there was a long gap. We couldn't afford a computer. Then when we could, we couldn't afford to spend money on frivolous things like games. It's only in the last few years that I've got back into it. That Riven experience was still lurking in my memory. I knew there was a game preceding Riven and I thought I would track it down and give it a go and one thing led to another...

It was a black and white game and you had to find stuff, and defeat ogres, etc... Then someone at work gave me a copy of Wolfenstein (which I gave back because it made me motion sick!). Since then, I decided to stick with adventure games....

1) Police Quest 1 (EGA) - still one of my favorites 2) Mean Streets - I was absolutely CRUSHED when i discovered that Overseer was based on this game (though i'm probably one of the dozens that had played it).

But I have tried to play a couple of adventures before that, getting stuck pretty early on: Hugo's House of Horrors - Got to the dining room and Hugo lost his head... The Adventures of Maddog McCree - Managed to do some things, got to the beach and found someone who wanted to fight, either the game got stuck or my character died, either way I stopped playing.

Status : Online | My first was Lost in Time (lurking over there in the Technical section because I want to play it again!) It had lots of MacGyver-type puzzles (is that what you call them?--you have to make things or connect things). I like those types. It's a third-person game.
I've only played one first-person game--MYST. And I hated it. Could never make anything happen. So I guess I like third-person best, so far.
The next one after Lost in Time was King's Quest VI, which my whole family enjoyed. So if my young son was about to get into something he shouldn't, we would say "Alexander has no need of that." He's 18 now, and probably very annoyed that I just told that story.....

But I think I would count King's Quest: The Perils of Rosella as my first adventure. And then Journeyman Project: Turbo as my first first-person POV adventure.
