Status : Online | Hmmm.... I don't really have any idea on what is rare and what not, for a while I thought "The X-Files" was rare, and once I had bought it a store started dumping some kind of left over stock from who knows where very cheap!
But I think one of the games I was most curious about and I had trouble finding was "I have no mouth and I must scream". I found a whole bunch once but that turned out to be the french version of the game (still bought a copy just in case only the manual would be french, but I wasn't that lucky) later on I managed to finally get my hands on an english version!
Does somebody know of a list of games that are considered to be very rare?

| Deleted User | In general, "rare" games are scarce/out of print and the developing companies are often gone from the market place. Some that come easily to my mind are:
Cassandra Galleries Laura Bow 1 & 2 Assorted early Sierra games Alice: Interactive Museum The Crystal Skull Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Serrated Scalpel I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream The early Call of Cthulhu games Dark Eye Early Zork graphic games
I know that there a lots more and when I think of them I will add.
What is "rare" to the rest of you?

Thanks for recognizing the 'greatness' of my getting 'Secrets of the Luxor' . Paid more than I'd like to admit on Ebay- it was a short-timed auction: one guy initially outbid me by a fairly hefty amount so I let him think he'd beat me 'til the last minute (which was right during the 2nd game of the World Series-so I was hoping he was pre-occupied), then I pounced with a series of bids to overcome his upper limit coming in the winner with just 3 seconds to go. Damn! that was fun!
One thing about adventure games is that it seems that company's release them and then, often, just let them go. For instance, go to Dreamcatcher's site- you can't get a lot of their games from 1-2 years ago even from themselves! I don't think it costs much to reprint those things- why not have them at least available on a website for $9.99 or something. Take Riven- I know you can find it on the web/ebay, but the single version isn't available in stores now- only available in the Trilogy.

The future ain't what it used to be!

I know I should not be self promoting but two great adventure games of all time are still currently available and supported at www.barracudanet.com. The titles are TITANIC "ADVENTURE OUT OF TIME" and TIMELAPSE.
Thanks again to Randy and his entire staff for bring back the JA FORUM.
Best wishes to all! Barracuda

I think it was about 8 years ago I ran into the Kings Quest collection at BJ's Wholesale Club. It has KQ1-6, both Laura Bows and some of Roberta's earlier stuff (Mystery House). The second Laura Bow is unplayable at one point in the museum because it runs way too fast but I wouldn't trade that bit of sentimentality for anything!

The other rares that I've attained recently are Crystal Skull, Dark Eye, Bad Mojo...

You can buy Bad Day On The Midway at R&R Wholesale at www.rrcd.com/all.html .
I have bought several games from them in the past and they have been OK to deal with.

Status : Online | Hi, I think Obsidian, while not impossible to get, is somewhat rare, as is Morpheus. Another game, Celtica, is very hard to get get.
I have Obisidan, and I just purchased Morpheus. I didn't get these games because they were rare or collectors' items. I got Obsidian a couple of years ago, when it was easy to get. I thought I would like it, and I do. I saw good reviews of Morpheus, so I finally decided to buy Morpheus. I managed to get it on half.com, the non bidding part of ebay.
I would like to purchase Celtica, but probably not enough to pay a fortune for it.
Regards, mszv

Have Amber and Lighthouse but haven't played them yet- I see them periodically on ebay so I guess they're not really that rare!

Hard to get games I did get (boxed originals): Cassandra Galleries Blue Ice Gadget Duckman Robin Hood Conquest of the Longbow Inherit the Earth Big Red Adventure Secrets of the Luxor Alice Interactive Museum DarkSeed II (still looking for DarkSeed 1) Bad Day on the Midway The Resident's Freakshow King's Quests (still don't have #3) Mean Streets Rex Nebular
I know there's more but I didn't go through my bookcases.

I forgot that I also have a vintage copy of Under a Killing Moon. (Have never played it, but plan to once I've finished the dozen or so I still have to work thru.) I see it very occasionally on eBay so it's still out there.... but not much.

I traded for or bought most of my games through Game Trading Zone and a few through eBay. I spent over a year diligently pursuing the titles I have. I have many more rarities but to list them would mean taking inventory of 6 bookcases full of games boxes (probably 400 games). I'm not addicted to adventure games. No way!!!

How many of those 400 have you completed? Some of those games look so pretty in their new shrink-wrapped boxes, it's just too hard to crack'em.

I have seen many copies of Amber in the racks of local Electronics Boutiques and Riven has been spotted in racked displays at Business Depot and Staples.
Hope this helps.

But what's the meaning of it being rare - does it mean it's valuable? Not that I think of selling my games (unless they go for a few thousands!!!!)
