I would like support for post counts up to (at least) 1,7 X 10(e31
...

Erh, how do you write down exponents on a computer again? Let's just say it is 17 with about 317 zeros in tow.

Unless of course they are real chatty.  Which reminds me...Caroline would be pretty darn close to 10,000 if she had never reset her post counts when she was up in the 6,000s.

[size=14]NOT that I am insinuating Caroline is chatty or anything like that. :

Hello There!

Hello Caroline. Supreme Goddess!  [smiley=wave.gif]

Professor Kingsfield is the character played by the actor John Houseman on the movie "The Paper Chase"

He was a stern, authoritarian, misanthropic, demanding, and intimitading Harvard Law professor.  Not that I am calling you that you understand.

In the movie, Timothy Bottoms, played as James T. Hart.  A new student of law who made the "mistake"
of not being prepared to answer one of professor Kingsfield's questions.
The penalty for this, was that professor Kingsfield would then treat him as a "Ghost", by "Shrouding Him"

Meaning that he would not call upon him ever again in his class.  Meaning of course that he would fail the class automatically.  In short.  James T. Hart did not exist at all as far as professor Kingsfield was concerned!

As as far as other students in the class told him.  Professor Kingsfield "NEVER" went back on his shrouding of a first year student.

How James T. Hart resolved this dilemma is truly hylarious.

The movie is highly literate, and gives a good idea of how demanding a law school can be.

That is all!

One question: How is being able to choose your own ranking that much different from being able to change the name for yourself that everyone sees?

On some forums, the username you pick is the one that appears, so if you pick "The_Unbelievably_Slow_Kate_Walker," everyone's going to see that, because you can't have "Susan" be your visible name.  Except you couldn't choose Susan to begin with, because it was already taken.  :
In that case, I can see being able to have custom titles because it's a way of being able to change things later on if you choose.

And I think there should be less of a leap after 2500 ... something before 5000.

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

Well, that way you could be "Susan, the Sagittarius babe" and also have a title of say, "Private Investigator" or "Super Sleuth", or whatever detective related title you fancy. Think of how cool it would be! How many Sagittarius babe P.I.'s are there? None, but you could become the first!

Here are the suggestions so far (I've taken the editorial decision to ignore Wolfboy's idiosyncratic suggestions - sue me!).

I'll leave it a bit longer to see if anyone else has any suggestions. More ideas from adventure games would be nice.

Here's a couple more from me:
Guild Captain
Guildmaster

Based on the D'ni guilds from the Myst series. Obviously it would have to be the Writer's Guild.

One additional suggestion ... some forums have a ranking to separate the just-registered people from the newbies ... so for posts 0-5 you could be a Stranger (from the Myst series).

Gee, Snowtime listed a very long list there. That's a lot to choose from and Val's going to that alone? Those names are great but I don't want to be a ghost!

At that rate, we'll be changing levels every week!

And anyhoo, I don't know if i'm so fond of the "PermaSuck" label...  I'm bad enough in the trivias already!!!

Okays, let's see if I can come up with some serious suggestions, eh?

Atlantean - Indy, naturally
Rah - as in the Egyptian title used to signify divine status
Mythos Expert - Lovecraft, Call Of Cthulhu
Knight Templar - numerous games
Chosen One - numerous games

I would prefer using game related level names. But, some of the current ones aren't really game related so this whole thing is making me nutso!!

My biggest problem is going to be where the new levels will be falling. I do think that we need some levels above 2500 but don't know what I'm going to do about the Grand Master title. I really like Grand Inquisitor so Grand Master may change to Grand Inquisitor but it may be the top level name which would not be 2500 anymore. *thinking thinking* Maybe 7 levels:  0-250, 251-750, 751-1500, 1501-2500, 2501-4000, 4001-6000, 6001-10000. And 10000 would be it and would have some crazy title (not the Grand Inquisitor title).

Oh, oh!! I just had a neat idea!! If we had an indy jones level, instead of stars it would have some little tiny indiana jones icons and for the Grand Inquisitor level, it would have little Zork lanterns, etc!! That would be awesome!! [smiley=hyper.gif]

We can be heroes, just for one day.

That's a great idea?

Does the number of stars/icons/lanterns change each time the title changes?

I suppose it would be one more than whatever the icon was at the user's previous level. I'm experimenting with the Zork lantern and it's not looking too good so far when made tiny so this may not work but I'm gonna try!

I like it! Perhaps little whips or fedoras for the Indy level, maybe a talisman for the Schattenjaeger level.....sounds like fun!

Is there any way of letting people choose which level name they want within a level - or which "theme" level name they want to use? (e.g. - Discworld Noir theme, Tex Murphy theme, Space Quest theme, Gabriel Knight theme, Infocom theme, etc.)
For example, within the 500-1000 post category the person could have a choice of, say, Wizard,  Schattenjäger, Spellcaster, Private Investigator, Viscount, Plumber's helper, Guild Captain etc.

A while back, I had my post count turned back by something like 800 posts because I didn't want to be a "Guru." I'd just as soon not have to do it again.

I like the theme idea, with appropriate icons.

Myst fans can select the theme that has myst like titles, Monkey Island fans can choose pirate themed ones, etc. and those of us who play them all can have the general titles from many AGs.

It seems like it would be a win-win for all and takes out the potential bad feelings some people might have with certain titles.

Sounds good but unfortunately, the software doesn't have any options that would do it. I can check for add-on mods.

[edit]Just checked and there is only a mod for post independent groups (member groups where there would be no post counting at all). This doesn't help.[/edit]
