The all-wise Val has decided that it is time to revamp the forum posting level names. The current level names (Adventure Grand Master, Adventure Guru, Schattenjaeger, Private Investigator and Adventure Apprentice) have been around for a while and some of the more talkative long-serving members have been sitting on Grand Master for a while with nowhere to go.

I have been commissioned (actually I nagged Val) to gather your suggestions for new level names. We'll keep the best of the old and look for new ones to insert above below and around them. If we have lots of suggestions, then I will organise a vote to find out your favourites and then submit those to the JA+ team for the final decision.

So, get suggesting. To give you an idea, here are some suggestions that came up in another thread:

Apprentice
Journeyman (qualified apprentice and reference to Journeyman Project)
Explorer
Junior Enchanter (from Zork GI)
Private Investigator
Super Sleuth
Schattenjaeger
Guru
Grand Master

Or how about just substituting the levels wholesale with those from Zork GI

PermaSuck Salesman
PermaSuck Regional Sales Manager
Luckless Adventurer
Acolyte Spellcaster
Junior Enchanter
Enchanter
Assistant Sorcerer
Sorcerer
Executive Spell Manager
Vice Wizard
Wizard
Uber Wizard
Dungeon Master

From Chris.
0 - 50 Investigative Reporter (Laura Bow)
50 - 100 Private Detective (Tex Murphy)
100 - 250 Journeyman (Journeyman Project)
250 - 1000 Schattenjäger (Gabriel Knight)
1000 - 2500 Mighty Pirate (Monkey Island)
2500 - 5000 Draic Kin (Longest Journey)
5000+ Grand Master (Broken Sword)

You don't need to suggest a whole scheme, just one idea would do. Get those ideas flowing.

I think we want to keep the existing ones for sure (they're great!) and add some new levels in between, around, above, below... just as snowtime mentioned.

Thank you, snowy, for starting this! (and he didn't nag; he "reminded"
)

We can be heroes, just for one day.

At the risk of seeming like a stick in the mud, all the fantasy/wizard stuff reminds me of role-playing games and playing Dungeons and Dragons, not to mention a serious dose of Harry Potter.

The other thing is that some Christian members of our forum may not take to kindly to being called wizard or sorcerer, etc.

I think going with detective-types, or names/titles from characters in AGs (minus the magic/wizardry ones) is the safest bet.

I doubt there's anyone that pathetic on this forum.  That type of people probably think that computers are witchcraft anyway

...not to be confused with Keira Knightley

I have a question... if someone thinks "sorcerer" is offensive, why wouldn't they have already found "Schattenjager" offensive?  After all, the origin of Schattenjagers was gift given to a family of special powers and gifts in order to fight Vampires, Were-beasts and other supernatural evils...   the gifts that were bestowed were the abilities to enchant daggars and weild talismans to ward off these evils...

How is that less offensive to those of Christian faith than a sorcerer?

P.S. To those who really care, I would think that Mighty Pirate would be more offensive, especially since pirates are associated with stealing, looting, raping, murder, and other law-breaking practices...  plus I bet that pirates don't go to church OR pay their taxes....

anyhoo, sorry that was very  [smiley=offtopic.gif]

I don't really care as long as I don't have to start at the bottom again.  It might be fun.

I think "Mighty Pirate" would be a very funny addition. I suspect I might be crying in the wind when I ask for there not to be a "
raic Kin" class - I can think of nothing worse than being likened to April "like, whatever" Ryan.

Hmmm... otherwise.....

"Grand Inquistor" would be a good 'un. And "Journeyman" sounds great too. I'd certainly be happy to see those included. Shake it all up Val!!

I'd like the option to be able to fill in your own title at the highest level.

I'm not disagreeing with you.   I have no problem with the label of sorcerer or wizard or anything like that.  There was just a certain list that went a bit top heavy of the Harry Potter / Fantasy bandwagon.  I'd be curious to see how Pastor Disaster would feel about being called a Sorcerer, that's why I threw that comment out there. But then, he doesn't seem to stop by anymore does he?

I prefer a nice varied list that incorporates elements from all AGs, not just one particular type. Pirates from Monkey Island,  etc.

I think Chris has the right idea with the direction he was going with his suggestions - all directly related to AGs.

Pastor Disaster is a cool dude Christian.  The sort of title he'd object to would be Sexy Sorcerer or something along those lines.  Wicked Wizard et al wouldn't phase him.

As to anyone really felling awkward, well, they'd just have to hurry up and post more comments to move onto the next level wouldn't they?

Hello There!

So. Harry Potter mania is not rampant here.

Humm.................

Pirates are un-nice people.

Yeah!  [smiley=huh.gif]

Okay.  Just another two cents worth.

Anyone has a problem with heraldry?

Lets see................

[size=18]Serf-----------------------------------------0-50
Peasant------------------------------------51-100
Freeman/Freewoman--------------------101-200
Baron/Baroness--------------------------201-400
Viscount/Viscountess---------------------401-600
Count/Countess--------------------------601-900
Marques/Marchioness--------------------901-1300
Duke/Duchess---------------------------1301-3000
Grand Duke/Grand Duchess-----------3001-7000
Prince/Princess-------------------------7001-10000
King/Queen----------------------------10001-30000
Emperor/Empress-------------------30000 and beyond

No Harry Potter.  [smiley=cry.gif]
No Scurvy Pirates.
No magic..........
No elements from any game.  Some might have favorites.
No law enforcement types.  "
etectives"  [smiley=whistle.gif]
No religion.
No political titles.
Well.......................... [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]
I could have gone lower and said servant or slave.  But I kind of thought.
Don't go there!  [smiley=shaking_head.gif]

This is just an idea   [smiley=wave.gif]

I agree Caroline.  I was just throwing that out there as a possibility.  You know me well enough to know I don't have a problem with those titles.  ALL the titles being along the same lines would be a bit dull though.  I would have said a similar thing if the names were all of another theme such as Pirate, Cuthroat, Brigand, etc.

We are a diverse group and our interests in games are diverse, so our forum titles should be just as diverse.

Remember, you don't have to suggest a whole scheme. If you have an idea for just one level, let's hear it.

I kind of like "sleuth" too...  but in general, I agree about mixing up the adventure-game-lingo for the levels...

so perhaps janitor should be for posting numbers 2-3 and then you're on to the next...

How about anyone who doesn't post for 30 days automatically becomes a ghost.  Just one post puts them back into their original status?  Can that be done?  Probably not.

I thought the idea was to suggest appealing titles and Val would decide which we voted on and then it was up to her to arrange them?

Speaking of which...what names does she have in mind?

I don't think I want a title of Greek Stud.  :

I'm terrible with names. One of my cat's is named Momma because she is the mother and the other one is Little Grey because she was the little grey kitten...

But I'll try a few:
...
...
...
...

Yeah, I'm drawing a blank here.

It's 3:30 am, maybe I should sleep on it.

Deleted UserOne of the levels, preferably the highest one, should be Official Forum Potato.
Although I also like Andromus' idea of allowing you to fill in your own title at the highest level.
Personally, I don't think there's much point in increasing the post count requirements- over the 2 years this forum has been open, only 21 people have passed the highest level. There are few people who are likely to ever pass 5000, let alone tens of thousands as suggested by ShadowWalker. I think if the top posters could change their titles, it'd solve the problem of being stuck at the top with nowhere to go without having to revamp the post count scheme.
