STooGE4444, EastCoastDoom...Schattenjger![]() ![]() Posts : 2099 Joined: 15 OCT 2002 Status : Online | Rose Tattoo Review I just finished Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Rose Tattooie. I will have to say that this game is very fun. Especially since Sherlock Holmes gets a Rose Tattoo on his boob in the first scene of the game. Actually that does not really happen although I thought it would. The truth is that Dr. Watson does. Well not actually... If you want a synopsis of the story of the game go find it at www.justadventure.com or another site on the Internet because I don't want to tell you the story. Of course, Sir Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes but did not write this story. The Rose Tattoo intrigued me because I love third person Adventure games. I have read one Sherlock Holmes short story before when a really small person. I was also young, too. I do not remember what the story was about but I remember the vast amount of detail. I love detail and feed on it. Detail in Adventure games is essential to provide the user with an enthralling and immersive experience. The detail in games can make you feel like you are reading a book and it gives a feel inside the game environment. The very first thing I saw when I ran RT for the first time was (oh, and by the way I am listening to Demon Cleaner by Kyuss) the title screen with carriages, people, and buildings. This title screen sprawls with detail. There are many people among the scenery doing their own things. There is a man rolling up the canopy above his shop and there is a boy selling papers. This detail is amazing, dynamic, and fluid. Moreover, this is just the title scene. Soon the game started, and I immediately got into the story. I could see that the story was going to be fun. The story is a perfect mystery. Again, I do not want to tell the story but there are many twists and turns in the story to keep you thinking about how the case is progressing. The story also includes many characters and relations between the characters. The second thing that I blew me away was when I started playing. You can LOOK at objects to see descriptions of the object. These descriptions are really descriptions. Most descriptions average about three sentences each. And that is a lot. For example, how much could you say about a simple pebble? Well play the game to find out how its real description. These descriptions continue throughout the whole game and are very fun to read. The descriptions alone could fill a novelette. These descriptions are a clue to the writing in this game. A beautiful aroma filled my ears when the first scene of intense dialogue started. This was excellent writing. I loved it. It is very sophisticated writing with excellent voice acting. Both talents quadrupled the pleasure of the game. There were many words in the first couple of minutes that I had never heard before. The voice actors of Dr. Holmes and Watson are articulate and bold. The only foible in the voice acting is that the women spoke very slowly and in pieces. That got a little tiresome after a while. The puzzles are good. Most are pretty easy and intuitive. The lab experiments are a nice little twist to the normal puzzles. Part of the puzzles in the game is finding new leads. New leads come from solving other puzzles or talking to people. However, talking to people and solving other puzzles does not always yield new leads. The other method to gain new leads is looking at things. This is definitely the largest downfall of the game. It does not seem that bad but it means that you need to look at everything. Everything includes everything in every single scene in the game. If you miss one little glance at a person or thing a new dialogue option may not appear. I was stuck in one major place. If you are interested, go look in the Hints Tips section. I never player the Serrated Scalpel but I knew that they changed a lot since that game. The Rose Tattoo was a very good game. This game was all story and writing. The puzzles were not extraordinary and the look-at-everything mentality needed rethinking, but this is one good game. I highly recommend it. Another thing is that this game inspired me to go and buy Sherlock Holmes novels since I extremely enjoyed the story. I will get them this weekend and I cannot wait. I might have forgotten some stuff in this review but I will look at it tomorrow and add stuff maybe. I end this review while listening to the end of Albatross by Corrosion of Conformity... I rememember about the excellent ending. The ending was excellent. It was very satisfying. Holmes gets some special recognition and a great gift, and it makes you feel like you're getting the attention. It was also a farely long ending and flowed smoothly. They even gave a summary of the game in an indirect manner, which I've never seen in a game before. One of the first endings of games that I really enjoyed recently... Yea, it was kind of fluffy but some of them were evidence. Plus it also makes you think before you look through all items trying to guess what to show someone... ~rbeeler SVT &&Name's STooGE$$$$ Valpurgius TNT; it's not PLURAL&&&&151.Generally speaking Sludge Doomsters are Angry, Gothic doomsters are sad, funeral doomsters are barely breathing, death doomsters are dirty, drunk and dribbling, Stoner Doomsters don't care, drone doomsters are out of it and traditional Doomsters are permanently pissed off, mainly with other doomsters |

I played the first game as well, it is not as good as the Rose Tattoo, but very nice nevertheless. Too bad they never made a third............. ??? |
